How long do you think I should wait to see if my Zoloft is working - from the time I started taking it - before I consider a dose charge or additional/different med?

Of course I will ask my doctor this question, but I am interested in any experience you have. Thanks.

The known time frame is six to eight weeks. Keep strong. HT

Hi

It usually takes anywhere between 6-12 weeks for the full effects to be noticed.

I was on a very small dose (25 mg) for nine days, and I have been on my current dose, 50 mg, for 16 days now.

For the first couple of weeks on the current dose , I could not fall asleep without taking some sort of medication, like a benzo or an antihistamine. Now I’m able to fall asleep.

But I still wake up every morning, earlier than I would like to, with a sort of wired/agitated feeling. It’s pretty uncomfortable. Exercise causes the feeling to dissipate but I really have to force myself to exercise that early!

And I’m still dealing with daily anxiety.

The first psychiatric medication I was put on was Zoloft back in 2000. I was originally put on 50 mg. Then my doctor at the time increased it to 100 mg.

Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. So another psychiatrist took me off the Zoloft and put me on another pill.

I suspect my doc may suggest increase beyond 50 mg. I’m not keen to do that, though, given the side effects I’ve had from 50 mg.

I’ll see what my doc says. But I guess I’m inclined to stay w 50 mg for another 4-6 weeks and see how it goes.

I know lots of people have to try multiple meds before they find the right one - if they ever do. I am just not sure I have it in me to do all of the start up, deal with side effects, etc.
