This is my first year using Humira. I am intending to fly over the winter months (6) from Toronto at the end of Oct to Ft. Myers in Florida, and back to Toronto in mid-late Apr. I take a total of 7 boxes containing 2 pens each with me. 1) Can I take this on the plane as carry-on? 2) If yes, what is the best way to store this to maintain the required temp? Air Canada Rouge is the only carrier that flies directly to Ft. Myers. I have border crossing documents from both the pharmacy in Toronto, and my specialist in Toronto.

I would ask the air lines. I have a relative in Ft. Myers. Small world.

Best wishes to get some answers. What is the Humira for?

Hugs, Karen...

Hi Cristobel!

My hubs is Type 1 Diabetic so he has to take his insulin pen with him whenever he travels. (he travels internationally for business regularly)

He recommends taking your meds as carry on since checked bags can be lost/delayed. He simply puts his pen in with toiletries and has never been asked a single question about it. I am sure that TSA is used to seeing injectable Rx's and simply let them through. I do think that it is a good backup safeguard however that you have your pharmacist's documentation however, just in case.

I hope that you have safe, healthy and happy upcoming travels!

Cristobel,

For specifics about envirnonmental/temperature specifics for your Rx...you may want to post in The Crohn's, or UC forums as they would have members the most likely to be familiar with the med.

Hi! Are you in contact with your Humira nurse ambassador? They are great for questions like this! Also, Humira makes travel cases that you can get for free,

I take Humira and have traveled before with one pen using the Humira supplied travel case. I take it with me in my carry on luggage. The recommendation is to keep the pens in the box(es) that they come in as that has the RX information on it.

If you're feeling extra anxious you can always ask your doctor for a letter explaining medical necessity for the medication but I've always been told that's not needed for US travel.

Your Humira Ambassador should be a great resource. Also the TSA site has lots of info on traveling with medication. I know it's super scary to do it the first time but people do travel with injections/pens quite a bit.

Also, one problem I encountered while traveling was how to get rid of the pens after I used them! My Humira Ambassador told me that most hotels and airports have sharps containers.

Hope that helps! Feel free to ask me any questions about this.

Best,
Lisa

Do you have to keep them cold while travelling? I'm starting Humira as soon as my insurance approval goes through.
