Hi everyone..happy thanksgiving. Here I am home with what was a chest cold confirmed with an X-ray that it’s pneumoniasad My anxiety is through the roof and I’m driving myself crazy. Trying to relax and know the antibiotic will do it’s job I’m healthy and young and will be fine. But becauSe my heart rate skyrockets at the drs (130bpm) the urgent care was worried about a blood clot even though the high pulse was my only risk factor which immediately goes down once I leave the doctor or urgent care. Thankfully my actual pcp is aware of my jump when I’m there and knows I monitor it ( more than I should I’m sure) and my normal is always under 100 tends to be around 80s when I’m not thinking about it and up of course some when I am.
Hoping this passes soon so I can feel normal again sad Kayla

Hi Kayla,

Do you do any breathing exercises for your anxiety? I do and it really helps to bring my heart rate down. I breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth with pursed lips. It is referred to as "smelling the roses and blowing out the candles". Practice it and I bet it will help you. It calms me down. I hope that it works for you.

I am sorry you have pneumonia. I know it is no fun. My husband had it a couple of years ago and he was real sick. I believe he got a pneumonia vaccine after that. I think that they are good for five years. He and I are older.

Worrying about your heart rate can make it go up in itself. So try not to worry. Focus on the breathing exercises when you can.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

Hugs, Karen...

Maddixone, have faith in the antibiotic. Doing so will help you calm down.

M.,

I am so sorry that you are not feeling well...and on a holiday too. sad

I sounds like rationally you know that you will absolutely be okay with continued use of your medication and time to heal.

However, at times our anxiety speaks louder than our rational brain! I find that the use of positive mantras really helps with intrusive anxious thoughts. You can use any phrases that are comforting and reassuring to you...like the facts you stated above. For example 'I am young and healthy and these antibiotics are going to help me fight this off soon.'

If you need another tool, the Therapy Worksheet downloads from our Resources are also fantastic.

Well wishes and keep us updated so we can keep you in support!

Try not to think so much and just rest and get better. The stress can mess up your immune system. What if something terrible were to happen? You'd deal with it the best way you know how. Give yourself some credit. You can and will handle things.

Do you do any breathing exercises? It does help with anxiety.

I can share with you what I do if you are interested. I hope you are feeling better by now.

Hugs, Karen...
