Years ago when I was in group therapy, I was dealing with lots of unpleasant anxieties. And as anyone with bad anxieties will tell you, when you feel real nervous a lot, you don't want the anxieties to go away next week or next month. You want to calm down right now!
The group therapist told us that overcoming anxiety often takes time.
My response to that was that I want to calm down now. Other members in the group said the same thing.
The counselor told us that we needed to be patient.
He was right. But it's still hard when you want the anxiety to go away quickly.
However, I took his advice. And now that my anxieties have been low for many years, I'm glad that I chose to have patience. I'm glad that I gave psychiatric treatment a chance because it helped me a lot, even though the anxiety I was dealing with took a long time to go away.
