Hi all.

If you’ve read my recent post, I’ve been struggling lately with lots of anxiety from a death in the family. I recently went to my doctor and she gave me vistaril for as needed help with anxiety. Has anyone taken this as well? Also, side note, anyone else notice major anxiety when using an inhaler??! I’ve had a lingering cough after my pneumonia diagnosis in late November (thankfully X-ray came back good 🙌🏻) so she prescribed me an albuterol inhaler and every time I think about using it I freak out that it’s going to make me go into super anxiety attack mode and have crazy palpitations and all that fun. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Anyone else notice these issues?

Thanks in advance, M

Hi maddixone,
I hope it works well for you! Everyone is different. It didn’t work for me. I’m on Zoloft and buspar now with good results. As for the inhaler, albuterol is known for elevating your heart rate. I’ve been on it much longer than I’ve had anxiety issues and it’s always been a problem for me. It doesn’t cause me to panic but it does cause high heart rate, weakness, and chest discomfort. Might want to talk to your doc about other options.

Hi maddixone,

I haven't taken Vistaril. But I have heard that the inhalers can increase your heart rate. My first husband had copd and used an inhaler and a nebulizer. It was like it gave him energy. I always wondered if there was ephedrine in the stuff he used.

I just wanted to say I hope that you feel better soon and like Labradorite said maybe talk to the doc about another medication that hopefully wont give you anxiety to take.

Have a good day...

Hugs, Karen...

Might want to ask about xopenex inhaler. I took it years ago as an alternative to albuterol. I only needed it when I was sick. Doctors told me it didn’t have the component that causes the heart side effects and it worked really well tho I was told it is not a long term medication for some reason.
