I used to drink black tea, a couple cups a day. Realizing how much caffeine I was getting, I recently switched to decaf coffee, and I can tell a big difference (a bit calmer). What's your hot drink of choice? Coffee, decaf, tea, decaf tea...hot chocolate?

Coffee in the morning. Every morning. Caffeine free tea in the late afternoon or later (often chamomile or passionflower). Occasionally, green tea.

I drink coffee all day. I used to drink it one third decaff. But I have been drinking it full strength now. Though it gives me more energy, it also does increase anxiety I think. I can't seem to get back into the decaff. I don't know why as it doesn't really taste any different. I do meditate and do breathing exercises when needed though so that helps.

Good topic. Thanks for starting the thread. I am seeing a connection for me anyway.

Hugs, Karen...

I'm a "tea"-totaler, and drink tea all day long. I drink good tea that I buy through online shops. One of my favorites this year is from the country Georgia, made by "Renegade Tea Farmers" who started working the tea farms abandoned 30 years ago after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. You can read their story at their web site: https://www.renegadetea.com

Tea has less caffeine and does not make me jumpy and jittery the way coffee does. It also has the amino acid L-theanine, which causes "relaxed alertness" by increasing the brain's alpha waves.

Tim brought up a good point - tea, black and more so green, both contain the amino acid L-Theanine. I actually have L-Theanine capsules, and during "rough" times, I take 2 capsules two to three times a day - good stuff! (and safe). That, along with slowed breathing and positive self-talk ALWAYS ends my spiraling anxiety.
