A continuous worry and source of anxiety for the duration of the pandemic is near an end. My mother, in her 90s, lives in a long-term care facility, which have been incubators for the coronavirus.

I haven't visited her in person since March (she has advanced dementia) and as much as I wanted to, current restrictions and medical common sense prevented that. She and other residents of long-term care centers are scheduled to begin receiving the Covid vaccine beginning next week.

This is such a relief to me. Looking back I have handled my anxiety over this pretty well and have practiced good self care.

That must be so comforting to know.
Good for you! We should all pat ourselves on the back for getting through Covid anxiety!

In a world where we already have so much stress and worry--along comes covid pushing those of us with anxiety issues over the top. I can remember past epidemics like SARS, Swine Flu and others yet covid is the one which most worried me. I just cant cope with so much stress like I could when younger. Fortunately I was not alive for the Spanish flu back in 1918. In the US we had 500,000 deaths and worldwide about 50 million died. What a nightmare that was. Thankfully we are better able to deal with pandemics now.

With the new vaccines I hope we are able to end this horrible disease soon. I just want to live the rest of the years of my life in peace.

My prayers are with you all.

Oceanfisher,

Breathe. Do you do breathing exercises? They really help with stress and anxiety. Also mindfulness. open the mind to let good things in. Stay in the moment.

Positive thinking. Focus on good things instead of bad. When we focus on the bad, that is all we can see. Even good things are overlooked and downplayed in our minds.

Meditation, calms the mind. Focus on breathing and a mantra.

Don't overlook your tool box. If you check out the resource page at the top of the main Anxiety and Panic page, there is a lot of helpful information. I think it would help you.

Keep hanging in there. If your anxiety gets worse, I would suggest some video chat with your doctor or therapist. Your anxiety seems high, and we all could use some extra help.

Hugs, Karen...

I know I sound bad. I think I am getting better though, at least for now. For the past few years I just did not even admit my anxiety was ruining my life. I do ok for a few days or a week then things snowball until I have a full blown anxiety attack. If I can calm down and fall asleep after taking my meds then I can somehow reset myself. I don't have much experience handling anxiety.

It has just been the past few years that anxiety has gotten the better of me. also my drs have my other health issues to deal with and it seems my anxiety gets the back seat priority. I have pretty bad degenerative disc problems and had spinal fusion and need more in the coming year. I have osteoporosis which makes things even worse. If all that were not enough I have cancer which honestly the last six months has just pushed me over the edge.

I will get a handle on this eventually. Covid keeps me from doing things I know would help my anxiety. Not being able to get out makes me upset. I try to help others also. I lost my volunteer job at the soup kitchen which was a great help to me also. I felt like I was helping others so much.

Thank you all for you help and kindness.

OceanFisher,

If I were you I would contact a psychiatrist and see if they have anybody doing telephone therapy. You can use skype, zoom or facetime. Or just the telephone. Have you ever had therapy? Most regular doctors only try certain things because mental health is not actually their specialty.

I know you feel bad that you can't get out and help people. And the people you were helping are definitely hurting. There is probably no soup for the people that were coming to get it. No matter how bad it seems, there is usually somebody worse off than ourselves.

Try taking things slow, slow your mind down and try to make the best of things. I am sure that there are good things in your life you can reflect on. They may be small but they are very powerful when it comes to the way we are feeling at the moment.

Maybe you and your wife can start playing games. Board games or cards. Something to keep your mind busy. Do you belong to aarp? They have online events people can watch. Puzzles to do. You may have to look but if you have a phone or computer, there is a lot you can do online.

I know it is tough when we feel we are in the bottom of a pit. It is hard to see through everything to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Just know you aren't alone. We are all going through this together.

Hugs, Karen...

Miss Karen,
Thank you for the advice. Anxiety does not rule my life 24/7. I have good and bad days. Usually I get stressed by something that happens which then sends me into an anxiety mood. Please don't think I am a saint. I am just trying to be a better person and help others. The soup kitchen was a great outlet for me to help the less fortunate.

I am looking for the right med to help me with my anxiety. Between covid and my health I am just being overwhelmed lately. I do meditate and breath which helps. Sleep also resets me when I am having a bad day. Life is difficult as we age. I am just having a hard time adjusting. Because of my spine my pain spikes at times during the day which causes my mind to go places I do not want to go.

Thank you so much Miss Karen for caring and helping me as well as others.
Bless you

I want to thank you for the links Miss Trina. I read through both articles and agree one way to combat the horrors of covid each day is to balance bad new with uplifting good news.

Also outrage exhaustion is a real issue especially for me. I absolutely push myself into a corner with both covid and my pain levels. I know many people prefer to wait on the covid vaccine but not me. I already take flu and pneumonia shots each year plus about a dozen other shots for my medical issues. Knowing the covid vaccine is out there makes me feel better. What upsets me is the wait time to get the shot. I agree nursing home and medical people should have first priority. I hope maybe next month I can get this taken care of.

Thanks and my prayers are with you all
