Reading the news is just breaking my heart. I stay away from it for a few days, maybe a week or so. Then I decided maybe things have changed but no....

This morning I was watching a CNN video about the covid vaccine and why the US is so slow about getting people vaccinated. The drs are blaming the CDC for being bureaucratic and slow. Lastly we are being told of people because of status and wealth are getting their vaccine ahead of the elderly or healthcare workers. This is appalling as the highest risk people should receive the vaccine first.

Also on the political scene here I am just so over the presidential election. Come Jan 6 there will be more fighting in the Senate as both sides fight over who will be president and who stole the election.

Is it me just me, or are people acting like children lately? Instead of our elected officials working for the good of the people they seem to do what is in their own best interests.

Lastly please know I am not trying to break any rules about what can and cannot be posted here. I am refraining from using names and hope my message is not offensive to anyone. I suffer from anxiety and I just want peace and tranquility for the people of our nation and for the whole world. More and more people are dying each day and we fight over the stupidest things.

While all of this upsets me I have reached a point where I can at least stop myself from having a complete meltdown. I just keep taking the meds given to me and pray the people of this world wake up and work together for the common cause of everyone.

Thanks for listening.

I know you needed a sounding board - part of why we are here! I would suggest you take a break from reading and looking at the news. Also, nothing new - there have been times in the past when news is scary or crazy. I'm not suggesting you put your head in the sand with the news, just, for your own sanity, take a breather from it. We all need to do that from time to time. I'm not trying to sound flip - but we need to keep our balance, and one way is to remind ourselves of what we're grateful for. I'm grateful for you and everyone else on this forum!

Topo,
I thank you for you concern and also saying you are grateful for all of us on this forum. I do turn away from the news and it does help. Yet at the same time I feel as if I am running away from our problems by hiding. Not that I can do anything to change things. I feel as if the whole world has just gone crazy. I used to believe the US was a beacon of light to the world. Where fair play and compassion ruled the day. Now I see people in our government who only wish to further themselves at the expensive of the poor and those incapable of taking care of themselves.

I will be so glad when all this back and forth about the presidential election is over. Other nations of the world are laughing at our democracy.

I am so thankful for all I have. I give thanks daily.

OF, as of this past April, I limited my news watching to my local news only for 15 minutes only every morning!! I sip on a little coffee during this time. I check my phone for my weather. This lowered the stress & anxiety level greatly. Give it a try, sitting & watching what's going on across the country is feeding your stress levels. Remember we can only control ourselves.

The problem with distributing the vaccines is the availability of medical personnel to give the shots & the space needed to accommodate people. The paperwork has to be processed, then the shot & then the person has to be monitored for 15 minutes before they are allowed to leave. This is the problem.

I live in a very large city. Our local health dept posted an online sign up for the vaccine only taking so many people per day. People are given an online appointment only, no walk ins allowed. The online registration asks your age & pre-existing health problems that puts a person at high risk. This started on 12-31 & people stood in line for 5 hours in the cold rain that had an appointment. They vaccinated less than 800 people that day. I signed up my husband & I up, but we cannot stand in line for hours like that. They also will not be doing the shots every day either.

A few weeks ago they were claiming Walmart, CVS & Walgreens are gearing up to vaccinate people. You've been in these drugstores, now how many people do you think they can accommodate in one day in their closed quarters, not many.

I go outside a lot during the day & just deep breathe to clear my thoughts. Even in the cold I piddle around on the back porch. I play online games sometimes, I like card games. Sometimes we get in the truck & just go for a ride, nothing like getting out of the city & riding around on the back roads. We don't have to get out of the truck to do this. Anything for some diversion. Regardless of all the chaos we all have many things to be thankful for, sometimes that gets lost in the shuffle.

Yes, keep the politics out of the threads whether names are mentioned or not please. Mods really do not like editing posts or having to lock them.

I only read the news online ( no TV or radio news). That way I have more control over what I I read--or not read.

Here in the Pacific NW U.S. the vaccine distribution is going slowly, but prioritized by risk groups. I will continue to do the Dr Fauci 1-2-3 waltz--Social Distance, Mask, Avoid Crowds-- as long as required. My favorite saying is "This too shall pass"

Miss Susie,
Forgive me if I have caused you any trouble. I do not mean be controversial. I used to be so able to just go with the flow in life. Now I see such injustice.

With covid running rampant I am having a hard time finding a psychiatrist who will take new patients. As a matter of fact my primary care dr has covid and is not seeing patients.

Is it just too much to expect people to just do the right thing?? Please know my prayers are with everyone here. Suffering with anxiety is just the pits.

OF, surely your pcp has another dr filling in for him, it would be negligent not to have someone covering his practice. Also, many drs are doing telemedicine appts even with new patients.

This past year my husband's pcp put him on Citalopram for depression & anxiety. He started at 20mg & bumped him to 40mg a month later. I knew he was depressed but had no idea how much anxiety was as much of an issue. I can't begin to tell you the difference this made for him. He had back surgery in October & if it weren't for his depression & anxiety being under control it would have never happened. He has done very well since surgery. He's turning 76 this month, not exactly a spring chick.

If I remember right you take Cymbalta which really does nothing for anxiety. Try to talk to a dr about putting you on a medication that works for both issues. I took Buspar several years ago & did well with it.

I would call the pcp's office Monday & ask who is handling the drs patients. If nothing else, look for another pcp, but don't give up.

I live in a small town which has limited primary care drs. A few months ago another dr contracted covid and he shut down the practice for two weeks. Everyone, staff, nurses all on two weeks at home stay. Now my primary care dr is also sick with covid. Her nurse which I go to church with said everyone also is staying home. I know it sounds strange but that's what is happening in my part of the woods.

I will try to switch to celexa as suggested when I can get back into the dr. I am so hoping the covid vaccine becomes available soon. I overall feel better than I did a month ago--I just need to stay away from the news.

oceanfisher58, I agree with your post and understand the frustration of the world events right now. This is why so many are seeking help for their anxiety and anger. It's hard to get in to see a therapist these days because so many are seeking help.

I had to shut down watching the news and my only goal now is to stay mildly aware.

I had a therapist tell me a story of her client, --he was having so many nightmares he had to seek help with that. Turns out she learned he was watching horror movies (his favorite) over and over and that was what was giving him nightmares.

Oceanfisher58- we are living in uncertain times and it is causing those of us with anxiety a feeling of living on the edge. At our age- we've been around the block a few times yet none of what's going on makes any sense to us. I don't know what to believe anymore - I'm scared.
Would you consider a Tele visit with a therapist? I mean I can't even find someone I'd want to see in person and I don't know if these tele-therapists are reputable- but it seems like the need was seen and they've popped up.
Wishing you peace

I plan on working with my primary care dr (when she gets over covid). She has been sick earlier this year with some sort of infection which lowered her immune system. Now she has covid and honestly I am so worried for her. She is not doing well at the moment and her nurse(my friend) said she is having a hard time breathing).

When I get my covid vaccine then I will try to find a good Psychiatrist and go from there. I am not too fond of the tele-med way of doing things. I have been forced to have tele-med visits from some of my other drs and I just don't like talking this way. Too impersonal I guess.

I find reading my Bible helps me see the truth of how my life will unfold. Not to break and forum rules with religion but I will just say I am a Christian person. I enjoy prayer and praying for others.

After reading so many other messages here I see we are all pretty much in the same boat. My heart goes out to each and everyone of you. Anxiety just ties my stomach up in knots and gives me the worst headaches.

Bless you all.

OceanFisher,

I am just thinking telemed is better than nothing. I really think antianxiety medication would help you to not suffer so much. I think you need to seek out a therapist or psychiatrist. They understand the mind better.

I am sorry to hear about your doctor. I hope she pulls through.

Hang in there,

Hugs, Karen...
