Hello
I'm new to this forum. Over the years I have experienced depression and more in the last two years anxiety. I obsess about my health. My doctor is convinced that all of my physical issues are related to the anxiety. In the past she has ran some tests and after putting me on medication it proved to be correct. More recently I am having pain in my right side and stomach. I can go days with no issues and feel very well and then suddenly it starts up again. I'm convinced I have cancer and she won't do any further testing. Does anyone else suffer from chronic pain in multiple places in their body. I even have pain in my groin area that goes into my leg a bit. When I'm in bed this is all I can think about and it causes panic attack. I really am tired of it and feel like this is never going to get better. I take buspirone 35 mg and Elavil 20 mg at night. If anyone has any words of wisdom for me I would love to hear them because I am ready to give up.

Hi Miss Diane,
I am a perfect example of a person who stresses over my health. I also stress over the world and US news. My anxiety causes me bad IBS symptoms some days. I never used to believe I was causing this to myself. My drs would tell me my IBS was caused by anxiety but I was sure I knew better. After years of suffering I now know they were right.

I take IBS meds to help manage colon spasms and also headache meds to counter the migraines and stress headaches I get. I still stress but at least I know I am not going to die from cancer. On a funny note, I used to believe I had cancer also. I was sure of it which made my IBS worse. After many tests believe it or not, I did have cancer. lol.

I am working toward finding the right med for me. Covid is really making my life miserable. I wash my hand nine hundred times a day worrying about covid. I cant wait to get the vaccine.

My prayers are with you.

I've got health anxiety, which wasn't helped by the fact that I worked in healthcare. It's under control now. I'd suggest using Cognitive Behavior Therapy, either on your own or with a knowledgeable therapist. It's worth the effort to get this monkey off your back.

Hi Diane,
My anxiety morphs. I think I find coping skills and I conquer one thing and go on to another.
When I was a lot younger I had health anxiety as you describe.
Then it just caused intense migraines.
Then IBS- serious diarrhea that could present at anytime and so on and so forth.

What I'm wishing to do is send you hope. Not that I can say you'll never feel free of anxiety-but that anxiety causes physical symptoms that are not going to do you in.

All my best

Hi.

Welcome to the forum as you can see you will find good support here from others who can relate to what you are going through so you are not alone on this.

I have bad health anxiety and it’s a tough one to deal with but I found that talking therapy helped so I would suggest you look into getting a therapist.

The main thing to remember with health anxiety is to not use Dr Google as that will only help fuel your anxiety.

Have a look at our resources section for some good links to self help sites.
