Hey there,

I've always been a big-time social anxiety sufferer. The worst part is that no one knows because I come off as congenial and upbeat but most of the time, I'm quite terrified of social situations. Often times, I have that anticipatory anxiety over a future event. Anyways, the pandemic over the last year has made me feel even more frightened of meeting and speaking with people. But I know, once we all reemerge, it's going to be a lot of social situations.

That said, I'm looking for any suggestions on books on social anxiety, specifically. I'm also open to other media like podcasts. I'm hoping to find some techniques that will help me live a happier, healthier, less fearful life.

Thanks smile

I don't have any tips but I've recently learned that I do have social anxiety.

I've always been very ill at ease in social situations. I always thought it was part of my bipolar or something. I didn't know it had a special name.

I do OK one on one, but if a third person comes up, I cannot function.

I like to stand up at such times. Once at a function I was sitting on a sofa between two people and was frozen, couldn't converse with either one and couldn't leave because I was sitting down. And it was in my apartment. Where was I going to go?

Another time, someone said, "Sit down!" and relax is what they meant.

I understand it now, and would be less likely to enter into such. But coming through that stage of my life when it was difficult to avoid those occasions had its rough parts.

Hi DavidEA,

Have you looked on Amazon for books on social anxiety? They have a lot of good books. I got a friend a book on there years ago for general anxiety. There were a lot to choose from.

I hope you find a good book to help you with social anxiety. I have anticipatory anxiety. I do okay in social situations but getting out of the house is hard for me.

Best wishes,

Hugs, Karen...
