Hello and welcome to the forum.  I agree with CC, you have exceeded your physician's dosage on your own as well as self medicated.  You need to consult a physician, as you should not just stop the medication cold turkey.

I will be honest here and advice you to attempt to get into a treatment center to help with your possible addictions. If you stopped drinking you may be requiring the Klonopin to prevent ETOH withdrawal sx.

Many of the members have been through the same issues that you are going through.  Please ask for professional help. We are here to support you.

Keep talking to us.

First of all we are not judging just responding to your post. If your Mother's physician is prescribing extra meds in her RX for you to take then he is breaking rules too.

You stated in your post "when I drank I drank to blackouts ".  If you research you will find blackouts are a sx of alcoholism and quitting on your own was very brave of you. Kudos to you .

I am sorry you have no insurance but I cannot suggest anything re how to take meds that are not even your own. That is a problem that a physician should be involed in.  I am not a professional.

Sorry,

Kitt

I have been taking this med for 6 months or so now and its the worst drug i have ever been put on. i am already addicted to the klonopin and i didnt realize it up until a few days ago that i feel a little off when i dont take one for a couple days.. i think its alot more than just being addicted to them its very hard to explain. i feel like it has poisened me and had made me alot worse as before i was taking xanax and it worked great for me. Today i had the worst panic attack i have ever had and this what leads me up to this site. i was clearing trials up in the woods with my brother and my mothers friend for some extra cash and i had been feeling very dreamy and awful panicy i felt an urge to go and get my water because i just wasnt feeling right so i started walking to go get my water and then i started running anf at this point i was getting further away from my brother and my moms friend and i felt even more panicy i grabbed the water from the back of the 4-wheeler and started running back towards them and my heart was pounding and i could barley even see where i was going all i knew was that i was running and didnt know if i was going to make it back to them or not almost like i was hullicinating. It was the scariest feeling ive ever had in my life. but now that i think back through things as soon as i stopped taking the xanax and was put on klonopin a couple months later i work up one day and just didnt feel right its so hard to explain and ever sence then its been an off and on thing that i just "dont feel right" my head doesnt feel right or anything.. But today really made me realize its something more than panic attacks. i think maybe my body isnt reacting right to this med. I just didnt put all the peices toegther until now. because of my experiance i would highly reccomend not taking this drug and switch to something like xanax or ativan where as these meds are for when ur having a panic attack and are not an everyday med just to prevent the attacks. i hope the best for everyone and figured i would share this. Thanks

Edit:  You have posted to a thread that is 3 years old.  Perhaps you would like to repost this and introduce yourself to the members of HealingWell as we would like to have the chance to meet and greet you. Thank you so much !

Klonapin and alcohol are the only two drugs in which you can die from withdrawal.
Drugs in general are less psychologically addictive when used as
Prescribed, ie ADHD medication. But I'm sorry hun
If you use Klonapin for a month you will
Definitely develop a mild physical and
Psychological addiction. Just be careful about how you take it if you don't want to be on it for the rest of your life as you have seen some of the stories most of the people have been taking it for quite a long time because it is a very hard drug for them to get off of
Also you body builds a resistance to it so you will have to up the dose periodically to receive the same effects you were getting before. Just be carefully babe

I started taking a .25 dose of Xanax back in Dec. and 10 mg of Celexa. That did not seem to do it, so my doctor switched me to .5 Klonopin twice a day and 20 mg. of Celexa. I was told by my doctor I achieved the right dose of Celexa, I would no longer need the Klonopin. I went up to 30 mg of Celexa with no benefit. Switched to Lexapro still did not see results, all along staying on the Klonopin. After a month of more of that, he switched me to Zoloft. I take 200 mg. of Zoloft and Klonopin as needed. I have been down to only taking .25 (1/2 tab) at night, but my anxiousness never went away. I am back to taking the Klonopin a few times a day. It is the only thing that relaxes me at all. I don't like taking it because it tends to make me drowsy which is difficult to get through the day tired.

I am extremely frustrated because I do not feel any of the anti depressants have worked well for me which forces me to stay on the Klonopin. This concerns me due to addiction. It also makes me wonder why I should continue the antidepressant medication if it doesn't seem to be working.

This anxiety which was brought on by the flu back in Nov. 2011, job stress, family stress, etc is truly ruining my life. I was never afraid to do anything and now I have to force myself to leave the house. It has affected my appetite and my ability to eat which is obviously necessary to survive. My poor family has stuck by me through all of this but are so frustrated to get their wife and mom back. I see the Doc again tomorrow. I know he will suggest upping my medication (Zoloft). Just not sure if that's the answer if it isn't working.

Any help or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

Hi NN and welcome!

I am sorry that you are having so much trouble with your medication, and finding the right one to suit your needs. I know that it must be frustrating. I also understand your concern regarding taking a benzodiazapine on a long term basis. However, judging from your post, I don't get the feeling that addiction is an issue for you...still some people don't like the idea of being dependent on a medication, and that is understandable.

Have you had, or considered therapy as part of your treatment? If not, I would bring this up with your doctor tomorrow. Therapy has helped so many of us here, myself included. It could allow you to possibly lower the need for medication, and it will certainly give you skills to manage your anxiety.

For sure have an honest talk with your doctor, telling him/her all that you expressed here. It does take time to find what works for you as an individual, so hang in there.:)

I hope that you get the answers that you nee soon. Post anytime with us...we will be here to listen and support!
