about 2 months ago, I had a major anxiety attack.
It lasted about 20 minutes until I calmed down.
I felt weird the next morning, so I went to the ER and they said I had acute anxiety.
My whole mental thought just seems so weird.
I feel depressed sometimes, and cry for no reason.
I often feel like I have to go out and do something to feel better.
Just withiin the last 2 day, sometimes my heart feels like its beating REALLY fast, but when I take my blood pressure, my pulse is normal.
I don't know if its from all the stress of the anxiety, or what.
I'm 18 years old, and was healthy before my anxiety attack, but now I always think something is wrong with me and I'm going to die.
My dad went through anxiety attacks about 3 and a half years ago, and he says i'm fine.
We don't have insurance, so I can't really go to the doctors, but I was wondering if you guys have felt like this also?

Hi cynabun, welcome, and yes......i can say weve all felt that way. Im sorry you dont have insurance, but you still should talk to someone. You have all the small classic symptoms, and yes, i feel alot that "omg im gonna die" feeling, but im still kicking after 5 years of panic attacks. You are still healthy, they wont kill you, just feels like they will for a sorry, i dont wish it upon anyone, but i hope you are feeling a bit better and please keep us posted, we are a big great family of p/a's ;) and there is alot of support you wont find anywhere else. Take care and keep us posted.

hi cynabun! i feel like that quite often sweetheart and i'm sure everyone here will tell you the same thing. at least when you are here you are never alone on how you feel, you really should go see the dr tho they have samples and will give them to you if they know you don't have insurance, my dr always gives me samples because i don't have insurance either. you just have to ask for them cuz they are there. i am so sorry you are feeling this way take some deep breathes in and exhale real slow that sometimes helps with the heart racing and it will calm you down to. you will not die from this i know it feels awful but they are only sensations and they can't harm you, when you feel like that just remind yourself that it won't hurt you and it will pass.
take care and post again to let us know how you are doing.

Hiya Cynabun I started my anxiety at 18 as well. I am sooo much better now. If you can't see a doctor, maybe borrow some books from the library on panic. the more you know the better you can cope. Hang in get's better.

Hi Cynabun,

I am sorry you are going through this! Everyone has already given you good advice, and I just wanted to add my welcome. Anxiety and panic have such a terrible effect on us, and we always worry that it is something worse, but it's not. I agree, that there are many books available that are very helpful. Even though you don't have insurance, you might check around in your community... I found a clinic here in my city (I wasn't working at the time that this started) and it's on a sliding scale of income, so I only pay $10 per visit for my visits. Most communities have mental health sevices available like this. Just wanted to mention that depression goes hand in hand with anxiety, and in my case the depression was pretty severe at one point. If your depression persists, you really need to see someone. I am so glad I was encouraged to get help for this, and I'm sure you can find some help in your town. Wishing you the best, and hope you will stay with us... this is a great place with so many supportive and understanding people. (((BIG HUGS)))

sorry i have to vent again, after another day of feeling absolurely horrible. I don't want to wallow in it but want to know what is it with this "anxiety" that makes us feel like we're dying, but we don't? I don't get it. I haven't found any groups that are proactive looking for a cure. sounds like the meds are just a temporary or long-term fix. Has anyone overcome this? should a group be started here where we ban together and look for answers???

Mooney123, YES I overcame this, after suffering for about 30 years and so can anyone else, if you really want to.

IMO meds help to relieve the symptoms but it is a changed attitude that provides the cure, whether that is brought about with the help of meds or solely by deliberate, concentrated thinking.

I have actually been trying for the last 2 weeks or so to give myself a panic attack, but haven't even got close, and they once ruled my daily life. No I'm not mad I just want to prove to myself and others that I am fully over it.
I no longer have to cope with A/P or manage it, I simply don't get the symptoms or feelings any more.

yeah   Thank you all so much for being so supportive!!
I have been doing a lot better lately.
I've been more active, and have not panicked at all for the last 2 and a half weeks!
I will continue to use this site, and see how everyone else is doing.
Again, thank you all for being so caring.
I am much more optimistic and ready to move on with my life.
I hope you all take care!!

Yay Cynthia! That's great to hear. Continued wellness on this journey we call life. We'll be here in good times and bad to support you.

Jethro, thanks for your story of getting better. You've inspired me. I know that i'm not alone in my A/P thanks mostly to everyone on HW, but just hearing that you've overcome it has helped me to see a glimmer of light at the end of an otherwise dark and gloomy tunnel. Thank you.
