Hello all!
I just discovered this forum and I am so glad that I found it! I have been an anxious person all my life, but for the past few months I have really been going down hill! I have really bad health anxiety and I am always worried about something! I am only 24 and I want to beat this now!! I just started going to a psychiatrist and a therapist. The psych wants me to start Prozac, but of course I am worried because anxiety and palpitations are listed as side effects!
I just came off my birth control pills to see if that makes me feel any better.
It is so good to know that there are so many people here who are battling with anxiety!
Any good adivce to help me get through? I am getting married next May and I want the day to be as anxiety free as possible (haha)
Thanks!

I would suggest asking your psyche about lexapro - I would not take the prozac myself for anxiety. I have taken both before and had much better results with the lexapro. Congrats to you on your upcoming wedding! Keep us posted! And WELCOME to HW! Idie

Thanks so much for the replies and welcoming me into the forum:)

Idie- I will certainly ask about Lexapro. It seems that Prozac is not used as much for anxiety as it is for depression.

Angela-I will let you know how it goes in terms of stopping the BC pills. This is only my 3rd day without them and so far so good. I just kind of want to start from scratch and see if they could have been causing or at least making my anxiety worse. It is funny that I took them for so long without really worrying about the side effects that they have. I was reading the Prozac side effects and freaking out and my mom pointed out to me that the BC pills have some pretty scary side effects too!

So true Becc, BC has alot of side effects that we don't even think about. I was on several different types over a period of time when I was trying to get pregnant (odd I know but docs do use BC to cause one to ovulate). And yes - Prozac is mainly used to treat depression. Be sure you are COMPLETELY honest with your doc. Tell him/her what you need and what you are struggling with. Do not let them 'bully' you into taking something you don't think you need. If you are struggling with anxiety - panic attacks, I can tell you from experience you DO NOT NEED PROZAC. I have panic disorder - alot of people think that this is completely different from depression. They go hand in hand - when you experience the panic - you feel like you are going to die. When you overcome it here comes the depression, which then makes you feel like you want to die. I know how it is. Talk to your doc - be honest, and get the help you need sweetheart. I know how much of a fight it is, I would just hate for you to get on something that isn't going to help you. That happened to me and made me scared to take anything. Honesty is the best medicine you can give to your doctor! lol :) Take care, God bless...  Idie

Idie, how are you feeling on the lexapro, how long have you been on it. I take it too, the last time I was on it it worked pretty quickly but now it seems to be taking a while to work, I was on 10 for 2 weeks, dropped to 5 because I got a little more anxious for 5 days, now back up to 10, did you have a lot of ups and downs when you first started it, how long to level out. just afraid it isn't working this time.

MsKittie, how are you doing today? jrbecc, you will love this place, it is sooo helpful to have others to talk to and this is the most active one I have found, you can also go into chat rooms if you ever want to talk to others right away, there is usually someone there, though not this morning, but we are also working with all different time zones so who knows. good luck with everything and just know someone is always here and you are not alone.
