It's nice to know that I am not the only one with these problems..I can't believe it's been 11 years and i can't get over hurts sometimes and now i have a 1 year old son and i pray every single day that he never experiences any of this.... also that he never sees his mommy upset because she is having a panic attack..

I've been on xanax for over 13 years now with no adverse affects.  I was down to taking only 1/2 of a .25 mg pill each morning, but lately the panic has been quite intense so I'm taking between .75mg and 1.5mg a day...will go back down when possible.  I've had P/A and agoraphobia for 17 years, so I understand the frustration of so much time involved in this.  I also have a 17 year old daughter and worried about the effects my disorder would have on her.  She has never known anything other than a mom with panic, and she has turned out to be a kind, compassionate, caring young lady.  She's a wonderful support to me and I think is a more understanding person to everyone she meets.  She's shown absolutely no signs of any kind of anxiety or panic and in fact is very outgoing, confident and strong.  I don't worry about her developing this anymore.  There may come a time when your son does see you upset, but that is a part of life whether you have panic or not, so try not to worry about it too much.

I was on Xanax for about 12 years and quit it recently cuz I was told that the clinic would no longer be prescribing it. Come to find out, that is not 100% true. My pdoc will let me take it on an "as-needed" basis. I havent taken any in several weeks now. If I had to, I would, believe me! I was never addicted to it either thankfully. As to your son, it's better, IMO, to not try to hide it from him when he's old enough to grasp it. We can't protect children from everything, as much as we'd love to. It is good for him to understand that PA is another illness, just as if you had diabetes or something like. If you hide it, when he comes to find out, he'll think it's something to be ashamed of. You seem like a sweet thoughtful lady! I've noticed that folks with anxiety disorder tend to be that way! :)

Remember to love
And forget to hate.

I was on xanax for eight years but unfortunately my doctor over-prescribed it and I was on 4mg a day by the end.  I had withdrawl that was unpleasant but I'm just fine now.  Honest!! Just be sensible and moderate and you will be fine.  I understand it must be scary to think your child might get anxiety but as the other lovely peeps here say you seem compassionate and sensible.  You'll get through it together if worst comes to worst.  My mother has never had a panic attack but she is biggest supporter :-)

I been on Xanax for about 20 years I take 1mg 4Xa day, no side effects from it, I use to worry about being on it for so long but now I look at it as I need my Xanax to go out like a diabetic needs insulin, I don't abuse it and only very rarely do I need to take a extra pill during the day. I felt better about taking it after the pharmacist told me it doesnt hurt your liver at all. I have tried different meds over the years but none worked for me. forget the antidepressants i can not take them.
