For those here suffereing from true PANIC DISORDER (not anxiety only or phobias) and believe that something in their our changed that causes the physcial symptoms and this is not only mental, but physical,  we need to create awareness or start research.

IOW, how do we get one person or many of us on the same medical line that this is a physical disorder rather than mental? 

I'm CONVINCED it is physical.    confused

much research has and is being done This includes making sufferers have a panic aTTACK WITH CHEMICal injections, however the researchers never want to have one themselves eyes

there was talk of a biochemical version of panic disorder, agoraphobia is simply panic disorder with phobias developed from previous panic attacks

panic disorder is classed as a mental disorder and some sufferers find this insulting

sufferers shouldnt feel guilty or ashamed that they have it, they havent done anything wrong and its not a weakness of character to have it

however it is a character fault to refuse to make any attempt to recover from it, IMO

Ironic that you started this thread today! I went to my therapist and she was saying that her brother-in-law and some other relation to her had started having PAs recently and she's convinced that PAs are physical in nature and NOT part of mental illness. I think it can be a bit of both personally, but that's just my opinion.

i've said this lots of times on this board that I believe panic disorder starts from stress, over-worrying, a certain way of thinking, etc....

BUT then something happens with our first panic attack like a "switch is flipped" in our brains or bodies and our bodies or sensations are no longer the same. Obviously it is so terrible that our minds aren't the same either.

It's like somewhere there is a malfunction.

Never had a Panic Attack in my life until I started taking Pain Medications. I am now tapering off the Narcotics and guess what is also subsideing, the panic attacks. Now I Don't know if that adds any creditability to what you are suggesting but mine are definitely physically induced.

My daughter never had one in her life and some jerk md gave her Well Butrin to help her quit smoking. Now she has them all the time. She was not on the meds but a week and has been off them for over a year and still is suffering from them.

All you can do is hope some researcher stumbles on something.

I have said it miny times that I feel that it is physically induced by the chemicals in are everyday lives just look up the MSDS sheats on the paints and cleaners that you use and you will find that these chemicals cause anxiety and panic attacks in ppl but at the sametime it's been around for thousands of years

Mooney... this is such a physical disorder that it is frustrating.

If I'm facing my fears I feel like my legs are so heavy and I'm going to drop and I'm going to have a heart attack.

Researches don't know what it's like... and do they care?

When you look up Panic Disorder on the internet.. there is just not enough information to explain how we TRULY feel as Panic Disorder sufferers... and such may be incredibly frustrating to those who have no idea what's wrong with them, yanno?

Yes, we do need to get some sort of help line set up for people out there that this is INDEED way more physical than it is mental and yet at the same time it is so VERY mental because our minds seem to cause these phsyical symptoms.

I so wholeheartedly agree with people on these thread. I had never had anxiety in my life until the age of 40 when I was on antibiotics and something in my nervous system "flipped". I have never been the same since. Incidentally, right at the bottom of the small print on the drugs advice sheet it said "May cause anxiety which usually dissipates with cessation of treatment"......USUALLY???

I totally agree with all of you. My first panic attack happened 1 day after surgery. I truely believe it was my body wigging out from the anesthia (sp) and its never been the same. Like something just flipped in me and I can never get it back the way it used to be. It sucks. I don't think anyone can possibly understand what its like to live like this unless they experience it themselves.
