I was diagnosed with Graves Disease back in 1995. I had RAI in 1996 and I have had panic and anxiety ever since.
For the past twelve years I have gone from doctor to doctor trying to figure out what was wrong with me. I have had brain fog, severe anxiety, severe panic attacks, rapid heart rate, memory loss, and my hair was falling out.
Everytime I went to the doctor my symptoms would be attributed to my thyroid problem or I was told it was all in my head and I needed antidepressants since my levels were "normal".
My brain fog and panic attacks at this point was so severe I got lost driving home and it was really scary. I was determined to find out what was wrong with me. I went to nine more doctors before I got my answer. I was tested for Lyme Disease and it was positive. The news was bitter sweet. I was elated to have an answer but at the same time nervous of the upcoming treatment.
For those of you not familiar with Lyme it is caused by a tick bite. The tick can be as small as the period at the of this sentence. You many not even know you have been bit. Some people do develop a rash from the bite that looks like a bullseye and others do not.
Since it has taken so long for me to get a diagnosis I now have chronic Lyme Disease. I will be on antibiotics for months possibly years and there is no guarantee that it won't return.
I have found out that alot of people with Lyme Disease have thyroid problems, panic, and anxiety. I am by no means suggesting that you have Lyme but if you have alot of symptoms like I did with no resolve it may be worth getting tested for it.
Testing can be tricky. I am one of the lucky ones that tested positive by CDC standards. Many people do not test positive but still have it.
I have been on an antibiotic cocktail for a month now and I am happy to say that my brain fog, panic and anxiety have improved more than I ever thought possible!! I am starting to feel like myself again!
Sorry for the long winded post but I am so happy to have an answer that I wanted to share it with you in case any of you are having the same problems or symptoms.
