I have a problem dealing with my anxiety. No matter what i try, it does not stop. I tried various drugs, exercise; even therapy-nothing seems to help. I am visiting a psychiatrist on a regular basis, but all he says is that i need to take it easy, take Zoloft and hopefully it will work. But it does not. I am desperate because it really messes my life to the point that i cannot find work and socialize with other people. I just hope that it will not get worse otherwise i will not be able to control myself anymore and become too angry and irritable like i used to be. Please help me. I have no idea how to cope with this anymore and what to do...

Hi there my_mind_tricks...Welcome to HW tongue

My best form of defence against anxiety is using the age old 'breathing' technique..nice controlled slow deep breathing - until it passes. My other favourites are - distraction/diversion from whatever I am doing and meds.

Have you found out what triggers your anxiety and if so how are you dealing with it?

Thanks, jordaNZone. I guess my anxiety stems from low self esteem. I tried breathing exercises. I guess it is helpful, but only for a while. When i start thinking about 'it', the anxiety comes back; it just like i can't control it...

welcome to healing well.

sometimes we can get into a cycle where we get anxious about feeling anxious. I have been there, believe me!
I got to a stage where I started to think rationally about it and realised that anxiety couldn'y hurt me and that it would go away.
Anxiety is adrenaline and is a normal body response. Adrenaline is a hormone.

Anxiety can only reach a certain peak before it begins to come back down. It can't last forever and it does come back down again. KNowing that helped me to start to regain control over my anxiety. You have to remember that YOU are in control. You will gain the strength to feel stronger again and regain control over this, you are just going through a hard time. How long have you been taking the zoloft? It usually takes 4-6 weeks for an ssri antidepressant to fully kick in.

Take care and keep in touch
