Hey my name is Ben and im 19 years old, over the past 2 and a half months I have been feeling very unwell, and the doctors cant find out what is wrong with me, it all started possibly 2 weeks before my first soccer game when I had 6 shots of a very cheap scotch and whisky before going out to the club and having more beers, the next night I had incredible heartburn like I have never experienced before so I went to my local doctor and he prescribed me some pill to help get rid of the heartburn, a week went by and I seemed to be fine.

The next weekend I went to a party and slept with a girl who had a bad name for herself and a week later I began to lose my appetite and have some mild pains. My first soccer game was on that Saturday and after that I went to a 18th birthday party and drunk approximately 20 beers although that night I didn’t really feel like drinking I still managed to ignore my pains and stomach and continue to drink.

The next morning I woke to extreme Nausea and diarrhea which lasted approx 3 weeks and the pains in my prostate began to get worse, this is the point where I started to worry myself that I had caught a STI of the girl from the weekend before the 18th, stupidly I went on the internet and pretty much got my mind into a state that I had HIV, I began feeling extremely anxious and couldn’t focus. I went to the doctor to get blood tests for Sti’s, kidney and thyroid and one other I cant remember I also had a urine test, that week I began to notice I was extremely short of breath and energy and very lethargic, the results finally came back and everything was fine except I had contracted chylmidia and was given 3 cycles of doxycycline to treat it

The prostate pains began to go away but my stomach still felt extremely nauseas and I had only got a portion of my appetite back once again I began to worry that something was wrong as I was still extremely fatigued and short of breath, and once again looked to the net for what possibilities for what it could be  and I scared myself into thinking I might have stomach cancer, pancrititis or at the least a stomach ulcer, and was prescribed Zoton® for my stomach on suspicion of a ulcer and had a stomach specalist appointment which I had to wait a month to see, during that month I was scared and extremely anxious and constantly visiting the doctor over small little issues, what I was most worried about was the fact I could never drink alcohol again and the fact I would lose my social life which is something that meant everything to me.

about 2 weeks before my specialist appointment I started getting mild ringing in my ears I went to the doctor about it and he said it was just stress, but everytime I went into my room my ears seemed to ring more and I started getting less sleep and very anxious and worried about my ears and all of a sudden I wasn’t able to watch old style box televisions because they gave out a loud buzz in my ears which was intolerable to listen 2 I began getting more scared because I would go to work and come home and not be able to watch tv or do anything because of my ears, as another 2 weeks went by my ears got worse really bad to the point I cant sleep without a pill because there that loud , I went to the stomach specialist and he stuck a pipe down my throat and I didn’t have anything down there to worry about which now is making me think what is wrong with me because I still have little appetite and have a nauseas stomach and my ears are ringing out of control, so I guess I need some guidance on what to do next?

  • Do you think stress and anxiety could be a big part of my condition?
  • Do you think I could have a condition/ disease with my symptoms and my description
  • Why Have my ears started ringing and why are they getting worse so much quicker since the only thing I can think of might have caused a mild case is listening to my ipod for about 2.5 hours at once a day for about 4 days a week?
  • My ears feel really sensitive to sounds specially really loud ones like heavy items dropping or doors slamming
  • Its been just over a month will my tinnitus settle down if not go away?
  • Could the ringing be caused by my doxycycline tablets if so how long can it take to leave my system
  • I had a head CT scan and everything came up fine where should I go with my ears from this point as well as my health?
  • What other test would be recommeneded?

  • Fatigue
  • Short of breath
  • Mild headaches
  • Nausea
  • Muscle aches (mainly back and arms)
  • Sore joints ( mainly knees)
  • Off balance/ lightheaded
  • Tinnitus (severe)
  • Trouble concertrating and thinking ( probably dues to ears and stress)
  • Constant urination
  • tingling in my feet
  • very mild burning in my hands (every now and agin

Tests ive had

Audiogram (hearing came back normal)

Cardiograph/gram (normal heart beats)

Lung Compasity  test ( lungs are 124% better than I someone my age)

Thyroid blood test

Kidney blood test

Another blood test

2 urine tests

I would think alot of what is going on with you is Anxiety and thinking abiut the HIV thing

I get the same with the one ear all the time it is very frustrating and I swear gets so loud I cannot sleep at times even with a pill

I am sure others will have some input but I think you also need to see an Internist and have awhole set of other tests to rule out some things as well
Some of your symtoms are those of other DD but not totally ya know
Its qquite the mixed bag of them isnt it

I am so sorrry that you are going thru this

Now you need not go thru it alone

* may I suggesst(sp) you dont read to much on internet it will cause or can vcause Health anxiety to worsen

Dear Niz,

Welcome to the Anxiety/Panic forum.

You have had a rough time, but to know you are seeing a physician per your own choice is so good. That shows you take responsibility for your health.

Several things popped out at me.............the drinking is a possible reason for your stomach problems, 20 beers to me seems like a lot.  I don't know what you consume daily but alcohol can be hard on your stomach as well as it is a depressant.

Your antibiotic could also cause nausea.

I agree with Lyn, to much information sometimes talks us right into the worse possible scenario.  IMO I feel you have some major anxiety going on and going to an internal med Doctor is a good idea if you are still not feeling well.

Glad you joined us and I hope you keep posting.

Again a Warm welcome.

You certainly need to stop with the liquor! And yes, it sounds like you have "health anxiety". The more you worry about it, the more symptoms will escalate. Listen to Lyn and Kitt, they know of what they speak! Take care!

Hey there,
I'm not gonna even attempt to give you any medical advice cuz I'm not a doctor.  However, I know a thing or two about hypochondria and searching on the Net about diseases and conditions.  Bad idea... nono    While it's good to be informed and to be prepared when you see your doc about your problems, it plays with your head.  I have made this mistake many, many times.  It's better just to go to the doctor and let them assess your situation rather than trying to self diagnosis yourself.  Many of the things you are describing sound like anxiety.  But then anxiety can mimic any disease.  So the only way to determine that it is only anxiety, is to be examined by a doctor.  I have been experiencing shortness of breath for months now.  Like you, my tests came back normal, except my PFTs only came back 8% above average. Reading your results have me a little worried.  sad In any event, I think you are on the right track by checking with a doc.
Go to Wikipedia and read about Hypochondriasis to get a better understanding of this disorder. You may find that it describes your personality or maybe not.  You can also go to for a huge list of possible anxiety symptoms (remember anxiety can mimic ANY disease).
Drinking heavily is not a good thing.  It can cause many health problems now and for the rest of your life.  However, you're a 19 year old male, that's what you guys do.  Just try to ease up on it at least.  I enjoy a glass of wine every now and then.
If all your medical tests come back normal and you've received second and third opinions that your condition is anxiety induced.  Seek a mental health professional and get treatment for your anxiety.  Don't let it drag on without treatment.  It will make matters worse.
I hope that I have been able to provide some good advice.
Good luck to you!
