just about 10 weeks ago i had a stomach virus that really bothered me and kept going for about 8 weeks because i think it turned into a stomach acid problem because i was having a lot of anxiety problems. but now my stomach problem is gone but i still constantly worry about my health any ache or pain, and i even kind of think things are happening to my body that really aren't and i know they aren't because when i take my lorazepam everything goes away. Like i thought my vision was different, i thought i was having trouble breathing, and i was constantly checking my pulse. I was just wondering if this happens to other people as well

Hello snakelover,

It sounds like you may have Health Anxiety. Health Anxiety refers to an excessive preoccupation or worry about having a serious illness. Often, health anxiety  persists even after a physician has evaluated a person and reassured him/her that his/her concerns about symptoms do not have an underlying medical basis or, if there is a medical illness, the concerns are far in excess of what is appropriate for the level of disease.

Please remember that I am not a professional but you may want to discuss your fears with your physician and see if some form of therapy would be beneficial for you.

Please keep posting and let us know how you are.  We are here for you.

Snakelover - what you've described is exactly how I feel every day. I get an unexpected pain and I immediately start checking my pulse. You certainly aren't alone in the way you feel. I believe my problems are caused by health anxiety, so I am exploring cognitive behavior therapy with my psychologist to try to control it.

All - This is the first time I've posted here, but I am curious if anyone that has gone through cognitive therapy for health anxiety (or similar panic problems). I've had panic problems for years, but in the past 3 months or so, it has become very health specific and quite invasive in my life. I'm constantly checking symptoms, checking my pulse, most likely imagining aches and pains, working myself up to the point I can't eat or sleep, etc.... I was just wondering if anyone happened to find any particular technique that worked for them. I've tried redirecting my focus and visualizing exercises, but I'm not having any luck. My only other option at this point is to take a Xanax, but I try to stay clear of drugs if at all possible.
