My husband is manic now has been on the same meds for about 18 month just doesn't seem to be working well. Can anyone tell me what type of meds abilify is anti-depressent, mood stablizer, ect... My husband has a thyroid problem also and it makes getting the right meds hard. My husbands sisters teenage daughter has been battleing bp for a few years now and also has a thyroid problem they have now stablized her thyroid and have taking her off all bp meds for about 8 months now she is doing better than I have seen her in years. Has anyone else heard of this happening?

Abilify is an atypical-antipsychotic, that has mood stablizing properties. My pdoc says he finds it more useful as a mood stablizer than in controlling psychosis. I am personally on this med and am doing very well but everyone reacts differently to different drugs.
Is he having a breakthrough episode or has he been getting no relief from his meds all along?
My family has alot of thyroid problems as well, and alot of Bp. I don't know about meds with that though. I have been diagnosed borderline hyperthyroid at one point in my life but that passed and never recurred.
I would have him get with his pdoc. If his meds arent working something certainly needs to be done.

Thank you so much Ellie We tried to put him in the hospital yesterday but there was not any bed he is calling the Dr. and they are really good with him you know after so long you know what you need sometimes better than the Dr. We don't think it is a breakthrough We think he just needs a meds change you know sometimes you have to do this.
yes, it does tend to happen, though not all that often thank goodness.
