Tonight I was reading Dogsong by Gary Paulsen (just a book my students read - on about the 5th grade level when I came upon a passage that helped keep things in perspective . . .
"Yet the fear was gone. The fear had come from the unknown, from not acting, and now that he had made a decision to act the fear had gone. He might not make it, ...,but he would not die with fear. he would die working not to die." . . ."The thing with dying was not to try not to die and make death take you with surprise. And with the end of fear came a feeling of strength."
What a powerful statement from a book for kids. Reinforced some will in this adult.

Very powerful Jackie. I always had a greater fear of the unknown than once you "give it a name". Once the unknown no longer holds you in its fear I find it easier to pick myself up, dust myself off and start all over again.

Wow those are powerful words for a child to comprehend. If they impact them at this young age, think of the power they will have throughout their lives. I will see if I can find the book to read to my grandchildren. Thanks for sharing. Hugs MK
