Hi, my name is Jennifer---Just had my 1st & hopefully last seizure on 1-26-06....New to all of this...I am currently taking Dilantin--but my Neurologist says that Dilantin causes unusual hair growth in women, so he wants to try me on something different...I have already tried Tegatol & had an allergic reaction to it---they just had me stop that today...Just curious about the hairgrowth...I have a very interesting story to tell about my seizure...Will tell anyone who is interested...

I've been taking dilantin or the generic in recent years for maybe 10 years. I have grand mal seizures - so when i have one i'm out for the count! and can't even go back to work for almost 2 days. the dilantin was a life-saver. as for hair - very very little an i've been taking it a long time.
i've had no facial hair - but once in a while i'll get like a single strange hair growing on the underside of my arm. i only notice it because it's black as coal, and i'm a dirty blonde. it hasn't been a big deal for me - i pluck it and go on.
i'm just thankful the dilantin controls my seizures. as there are a lot of people out there who can't find the right medication.
i'd ask your dr. about your concerns. perhaps he can put it in the "right light" or put you on a diff. medication.
if i had weird hair growing all over or on my face i'd be concerned too, but it just hasn't happened. God bless!
seizure disorder - chronic myofacia pain - B-12 anemia - severe neutropenia - bulging disk in neck, etc.

Thanks for checking on me! Boy have I really been through it!
I started taking Carbamazepine (generic for Tegretol) on 2-10-06. The next evening after I started--we were @ one of our friends--they have cats--I am allergic to cats!!! Within minutes of being there--my eyes started itching...The next morning I woke up with swollen-goopy-sealed shut eyes!!! I was freaking out that the cats affected me so much. Few days later--was still having allergy issues--talked to some people--they said the pollen was high---I thought it was weird that I was having allergies so bad---severe itchy eyes--sneezing--stopped up/runny nose 
I didn't know what was going on...Had thought it might be allergy to meds---Then Sunday 2-19-06 I started breaking out in a rash. My husband said I should call the Dr., so I did...Nurse returned my call after I left her a detailed message---she said I was definately having an allergic reaction---Dr. said to stop the Carbamazepine immediately!!! I got worse before I got better... During the time I was on the new med I felt something I'd NEVER felt before--DEPRESSION!! It was aweful---I always wondered how someone that serves the Lord & has that joy- could ever be depressed...Now I know---it's almost something you cannot control...I hate that!! It started to take over me... 
Now that the new med is totally out of my system--rash is gone--depression is gone 
I feel like Jennifer again...Still debating on trying another med---but we will see!! I'm very thankful that I found this site---reading all the postings & getting replys to my thread has helped me so much! Thanks for caring! I'm gonna hold off for a few weeks before I have them try another med on me---I want to enjoy being myself for awhile...
