SOunds promising....more evidence of a gene test to determine who needs chemo. Wouldn't it be great if they knew in advance who really needed it?
Also, I just read an article on aromatase inhibitors, evidence is still showing it is better for post menopausal women. Tamoxifen will remain the standard for pre-meno women.
Yes I had heard this news and was excited to hear about it. Several of our members beginning with Faith Roberts advocated testing the individual's strain of cancer against the method of treatment instead of just treating it as garden variety cancer and using the same technique for all. I was amazed at the talk of Armidex being new because several have been on it for a few years, haven't they? Every step along the way to finding a cure is exciting. Hugs, MK
I was put on Arimidex in Jan of 2000. I took it about a year before they changed it to Femara because of joint pain. How lucky was I? Now I have to shave because of excess facial hair and I have bald spots from my hair falling out. And, I've stopped taking it for a few weeks to see if the joint pain I have now stops.
I just can't seem to get excited when I hear of a new drug but I am hoping this test makes treatment much easier for those who qualify.
I, too, heard the news. While I think it's terrific, I wish they could tell those of us who have been through all the treatments if our tumors are likely to return. I know I'd be happy dancin for days if I knew it wouldn't return.
At the bottom of the article, it says that the test is already being used. It also says that it is used to quantify the likelihood that the cancer will return.
I haven't been offered this, but I'm still lin the first battle. Maybe it is something the NED ladies can ask for now. That woudl be great!
Jen, I asked about this or something similar a while back, and they said it was too new and not yet being used, just in its infancy stages. I definitely plan to ask about this now. My next visit with the onc is in February, but I may ask my genetic counselor first. Will let you know what she says!
