Hey, Nickie, I'll try to help here. IBS and Crohn's are two totally different animals. IBS is driven by stress and anxiety (made worse I mean); symptoms are chronic constipation or constipation alternating with diarrhea, abdominal cramping and bloating. Diarrhea most usually presents when the person is under a lot of stress or is worrying excessively. It can be so bad time from work is lost due to the time on the toilet! Or it can just be a nuisance. It can simply be bloating/gas. It's different for everyone.
Crohn's OMG. It's an autoimmune disorder (meaning the body is actually attacking it's own tissue), like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus among many different illnesses. Usually there is another autoimmune disorder present with Crohn's. Symptoms are severe and debilitating; severe, dehydrating diarrhea, severe abdominal pain, mostly in the lower right side, ulcers in the intestinal walls, chronic intestinal/rectal bleeding that causes anemia, malabsorption of nutrients causing malnourishment. It can inhibit growth in children. It is a very serious disease, and is really nothing like IBS. I doubt your friend has that, a doctor would have known the difference. Hope that helps!

Yeah, that doesn't sound at all like IBS. I figured if a doc dx that, she didn't have any serious symptoms. Her diarrhea can be present in IBS, the rectal bleeding could be an internal hemorrhoid or fissure. Did she tell the doc about that? Did he examine her?
If not, she needs a rectal exam. Also, did he do a chem panel and CBC? He needs to check for anemia with the bleeding! What is also concerning is the LLQ pain and heat. Does she run a low grade fever? If this doc knows about all the symptoms and thinks it's IBS, I recommend she see a GI doc. It could very well be an infection of the colon.
I have both bipolar and Croan's disease. I have been doing ok with the croans' for the past month. However, since last week I have had a manic episode so I am heavily sedated with Seraqual and toparal.

I have posted a few times in the Crohns forum. I was diagnosed with CD Jan 05. I think I have had all the tests possible. The colonoscopy showed mild inflamation in the ilium. So I have been on a roller coaster. I have recently had some real doosey manic episodes. I say very hurtfull things to my spouse and half the time I dont remember what was said. Dr put me on Depakote and Seraquel two weeks ago. They make me feel so medicated. I sleep them off for 4-6 hours then come back to reality and the day is gone. The doc said that he wants to get me back to normal, he said major chemical inbalance. Very disturbing situation has been going on in my life since August last year. I take each day at a time.
From 6 burglerys (thank God we were not home), to 17 year old daughter running away, to domestic violence, to husband to detox (my ultamatum to him), him having a stroke (same week) three weeks ago, me suffering from crohn's and bi-polar, did I mention step daughter was suspended from summer camp (she is only six and lives with her mother). I just ask the Lord to help me day by day, hour by hour, and minute by minute. Took a leave of absense from work to sort through all these crisis.
