hello all, im mel n im 15...i am fairly new to healng well and i originally joined for the cystic fibrosis (CF) forum but i have asthma too so i thought i'd check it out here. well as i said i have CF and asthma, so i have a LOT of lung related problems. anyway i was just wondering as i've heard that asthma is the most common cause for hospital admissions in kids but i've never actually knwon why. with my CF i am im hospital quite a lot yet i've never seen an asthma related case!!! so i guess i was just wondering if you've ever been hospitalized due to asthma and if so, why? what does it ential i.e. what treatments do you do and how long do u usually stay for. also one more question i've also heard that some asthmatics are on nebulizer treatments, and i was wondering what nebs you do. with CF i do nebs several times a day but i was just interested to know about nebs in people who just have asthma. thanks n stay well !!! bye
Hi there,and welcome :)
I as well have asthma, and i take a medication called Advail 1 puff, 2 times a day.
I also sometimes get asthma attacks, and i take Salbutomal, 2 puffs, up to 4 times a day, but at least 4 hours apart. And that helps to open the airways, and take my attacks away, but i dont use my Salbutimal every day.
I had asthma when i was a child, from approx. the age, 5-8. It went away after i got a flu shot one year.
During that time, i had a number of asthma attacks where my salbutimal wouldnt help. So i would go to the hospital, and they would take me in a seperate room from the general ER, and then put an oxygen type mask over my mouth and nose, and it would blow out a steam and ventolyn/salbutimol (i think thats what it was) type medication. That would last approx. 1/2 hr - 1 hour, and then i would go home.
I got my asthma back about 2 1/2 years ago, im 20 now, and since getting my asthma back, i have had to use my salbutimal a number of times, and it has always eventually worked. So thankfully, as of yet, i have not yet again had to go to the ER for my asthma, but i assume it would be very similar to when i went as a child.
I have no advice for you since I don't have asthma and my son's isn't that severe but I just wanted to welcome you Healingwell and say that we are happy to have you.
