Hello there folks,
the name is auraboy.new 2 this so thought id introduce myself.i was diagnosed at 16 and am now 26.seizure type is comlex partial leading to secondary generalised.i have what im told is an unusually prolonged aura.anywhere between 1 to 24 hrs.as you can imagine its a weired old state of affairs ive gotten used to over the years.first few years was obviously a bit crap but as time has been going by,self pity and the usual loathing of this cruel,cruel world,have slowly given way to an intrest that provides more mental stimulation than most other things i've come across.instead of my epilepsy being one big block of badness,it has become a two sided coin.in that there must be a positive equal and opposite to the negative.does anyone else feel that? any hello's and responses would be welcome. :-)

That is the coolest thing I've ever heard!...."a positive equal and opposite to the negative" - I love it.  That is so positive. 

My comp. partials have always consisted of deja vu and a rising sensation - out of body sensation, with alteration of time and space.  And I always thought of the seizures themselves as something negative until I went to see an acupuncturist and he said to me, " Glenda, do you know - some people spend years trying to achieve a state of being in their meditation that you have already been able to accomplish.  What does that feel like?"  I almost fell over in my chair when he said that... I thought he was crazy for saying that to me!  But then, after I left the office, I thought, obviously he's looking at things in a completely different light than I am....If that's the case, then there's more than one way to look at E.    

If anyone else has any insight I would love to hear it...

yep thats exactly the sort of thing im on about.i was brought up as a bhuddist by my hippy parents and all of thier mates seem to be really interested in the decriptions of complex partials.epilepsy has always been associated with spirituality as you no doubt know,possesion by demons,south american shaman inducing seizures by eating cocaine plants in order to talk to spirit guides etc.have you ever written down anything you can remember about ur cp`s? i used to do that quite alot.i`ll dig some out and post them up 4 u if u like.

dostoyevsky had a really good writing about epilepsy.type dostoyevsky epilepsy into ur search engine an c what pops up.

ive never an outer body experience whilst in cp state but ive had them in lucid dreams before and they`re qutie cool really!

does the word synesthesia mean anything to u? the ability to see sound in you`re head? i went for psychometric (not psychiatric)testing recently and mentioned it to my consultant.i thought everyone had it but he said it was rare.i havent researched it yet but id bet my last quid that its more common among the likes of us than the rest of the population.

Hello, auraboy, just wanted to say hello and welcome to the forum. I hope that you can find comfort here. I am 24 and was dx'ed last summer. SO this is all somewhat new for me. I think that my cp's are always the same - same deja vu feeling, followed by the rising feeling out of my body,  then I have a rapid feeling of time and space rushing past me, like things that are far away are suddenly very close and wizzing right past me.  Things are blurry all around.  When I get the feeling of the rising I am very afraid and usually grab hold of anything that I can so my "soul" won't get sucked right out the top of my head and float away!   I always feel terrible fear when it happens. 

Many famous people have supposedly had cp's - Vincent van Gogh, Lewis Carroll,  Alfred Lord Tennyson, etc...some even claim Muhammad.

I am actually reading Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov now.  As an author, he was rather dark and wrote about the starkness of human existance.  Cruelty of people.

I didn't know what synesthesia meant until someone mentioned it to me - the phenomenom to see sound in your mind.  I listen to music and when I hear the notes I can feel the shapes of the notes in my mind.  The music is shaped as colored balls - big for low notes, small for high notes.  Depending on what notes, there are red, blue, gold, silver ones.  The lowest notes are black.    Babies crying are white sharp needles, kids screaming with tempertantrums red sharp needles....

There was an interesting story about the blind guy who climbed Mt. Everest, he used a special device on his tongue that stimulated different areas to correspond to an image on a camera, and therefore was able to "see" based on what his tongue could feel.  Is that cool, or what!

dear tracy

thanx for the greetings.much appreciated.i am at the moment doing a little research into the phenomenon of synesthisia.the ability to see sound,teste emotions etc.dont know if you`ve had any experience of this ur self but any comments,thoughts,suggestions would be much appreciated.the reason im asking people on this site in paticular is because im trying to develope some kind of statistic to gain an idea of whether it is more common in epileptic folk than the others.

ive been diagnosed for a long time so please feel free to ask whatever u like.
