AV fistula not maturing after creation – what are the options?

My family member had an AV fistula created for dialysis a few weeks ago, but it still hasn’t matured well enough to be used. The dialysis team mentioned that this can happen if there’s narrowing in the blood vessel or inadequate blood flow.

While reading about it, I found that fistula angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that can open narrowed areas, improve blood flow, and help the fistula mature so it can be used for dialysis. Of course, the right treatment depends on the patient’s evaluation by a vascular specialist.

This page provides a good overview of AV fistula care, maturation issues, and treatment options:

Has anyone here experienced a delayed AV fistula maturation? Did angioplasty help, or was another procedure required? I’d appreciate hearing your experience.
