Bernadette....

I saw your post in the giant thread related to hairloss...about your fear of recurrance. Let me tell you, that gripped me for a long long time...it is normal!  They say that most recurrances occur within the first 2 years, so it is definitely a a concern. Try not to worry about it, as it will make you nuts...just stay vigilant and do whatever you can, such as proper diet and exercise (I should practice what I preach!)....only worry about the things you can control,.....

Thanks for your letter, I worry a little about the recurrance but more about just getting well now. I have been sick for a month now and I finally got an antibiotic that is starting to work. This will be my 3rd day on them and my cough is slowing up. I didnt know that most recurrances were within the first 2 years. I have decided that I need an attitude adjustment I have been feeling sorry for myself. Im going to start walking everyday and that should help too. I have not been taking care of my body like I should have. No more pity parties for me!

Hugs:)

Bern-
Seems we are never free from the threat of recurrance, but they say there is a large drop off in the rates after 2 years...that is why the onc follows us quarterly for the first 2 years and then it tapers down. You will definitely have days where you need or throw a pity party, allow yourself to get down sometimes....but then it is up to you to re-think those thoughts....the anxiety can get to be pretty tough sometimes....you may feel like you take 2 steps forward and 1 back...that is ok too. Just know that the roller coaster is normal, and it will get better....

Oh Lori, how did you get to be so positive? I've always been a bit of a pessimist at heart, and find it so hard to turn my thoughts around sometimes! You must be such a strong person - I really love your attitude and I hope that I will be able to emulate it!

Chantry-
Thanks...I consider it a gift from cancer! I found it was better to be positive and fight. I had no room for negativity. Was I scared? You bet! Did I cry! Every day for the first week and then some.... I found that it was easy for me to be positive during treatment ( I did not like the alternative), but finding peace after cancer was my challenge. I was diagnosed nearly 6 years ago, so I have had more time to adjust....you'll get there too! Take control of what you can, which includes your thoughts and reactions. And allow yourself to have some bad days too, I think we get hard on ourselves unfairly.

Hang in there!
