burning pain in toe

Hi everyone,

I get a burning pain in my big toe joint at the ball of the foot.  All my other joints that hurt aren't a burning type of pain so I'm wondering if it's arthritis or something else.  Any ideas?

Lynne

Lynneb Hi,

It sound's like it may be gout,my ex-husband had gout and what you are describing sound's like it.They use to call it a rich mans disease because way back the only peole that ate a lot of red meat was well off people.

Gout is when you have to much acid in your system in return that is what causes it.I do hope that you get it checked. My ex-husband waited untill it got so bad and could not walk before he fianally whent to the doctor. Please let me know what you find out.

Hi there - Suffering from Arthritic Gout right now. My gout is caused by the hydrochlorothiazide I take for my blood pressure. It is a rare side effect, but I guess I was one of those rare people. The pain is really really bad, burning etc. hot to touch. It happens when the uric acid count is high and the crystals form and the sharp edges lacerate the nerves.
Be sure and get it checked before it gets unbearable to walk on.
Good luck - Maura

I had read somewhere that gout is so painful that even a sheet on it will hurt it, and mine isn't like that. There doesn't seem to be any redness or swelling. It started when I was going for long walks but I stopped back in April and it is still hurting. And the burning comes and goes. Does that still sound like gout? How is that treated? Oh, I do love red meat...hope I don't have to stop eating it!

Thanks for getting back to me!

Lynne

Doesnt sound like active gout to me, but I am not a doctor.
Yes it hurts to even touch a sheet and at times even a feather could cause one to jump.
I take medication to keep mine under control, but unfortunately that medication (colchicine) cannot be taken with Advil which I had to take for a sciatic nerve flareup. So being without the colchicine for 2 weeks, caused a wonderful bout of gout. Nasty stuff. Now Im back with the gout treatment.
Lynne, I would check the burning with a doctor if you can, and make sure what you are dealing with.
Good luck - Maura
