calcium deposits in the breast???

Recently my roommate had a mammography and results came back wacky.  They did another mammography and then sent her to a specialist who then told her that she had calcium deposits or what looks like calcium deposits in her breast.  so they are sending her for a biopsy and those results determine if they are cancer or not and then regardless they will have to remove them.

anyone familiar with this, never heard so much as calcium deposits in your breast???

anyone got any information to help me back this up?
This is absolutely true. Calcium deposits are very common but it is the formation that can cause some question. She is doing exactly the right thing. In fact, my second time around with b/c, the biopsy on microcalcifications showed they were cancerous. I opted for a mastectomy but that was because of my b/c history.

It appears she's got a medical team that's on the ball. Let us know what happens.

"Dâmn... that was fun!".

Jo-Ann is right, and I just wanted to also agree that it sounds like she has a good medical team. That is half the battle right there!

Both Gail and Jo-Ann are right.  Sounds like your friend's doctors are on top of everything.  I have micro-calcification in my left breast.  Because of this a diagnostic mammo is needed every six months.  But, it is only when the calcification starts to cluster that it MAY be a problem.  Sometimes the clusters need to be removed.  Your friend is doing the right thing and you are a good friend.

Prayers and blessings,

I have to agree with the rest of the responses. Here is an article at Imaginis.com that should provide you with additional information on calcifications in the breast. Hope it helps. You can search for additional information at Imaginis. It is good site for reliable information. Let us know what your friend learns about her situation. Lauri
