My 19 year old daughter stated suffering with Migraine when she started her periods. She suffered them every month and was put on a preventive drug called Pizotifen, this worked for a couple of years but she did put on a lot of weight and the doctor took her off. After a year they returned the doctor tried Propanalol which made her feel tired and drowsy and unable to concentrate through her GCSE's, she then tried Sumatriptan which made her feel nauseous and then nortriptyline which made her have vivid nightmares and numbness to her face. She began to take over the counter painkillers but I was so worried that these were making it worse I took her to see her GP. We were referred to see a Neurologist who I have to say was not that helpful. He said she would have to put up with the side effects, some of these were headaches and sickness which is no better than suffering with the Migraine. She has been ill now for over 5 weeks. She has been off from work, has not driven her car or been out with friends. She is depressed and miserable and looks very ill. My daughter suffers with anxiety and has been stressed at the prospect of redundancy so I do feel that stress is a trigger but this is hard to avoid. There is a lot of information on the internet and I feel self help can be the key. She is keeping a migraine diary which will detail what she has eaten, stress at work or home, dates of her menstrual cycle and anything else that differs to her daily routine. It is hoped will will find the trigger. In the meantime she has been told she cannot take analgesic pain killer but has to "put up with it". On a positive note, her migraine does seem to have eased sufficient enough for her to return to work on therapeutic hours so we will keep the diary and try to keep stress to a minimum.
Good Luck finding your trigger.
Hello,
I have had a migraine now for 3 weeks. At almost 2 weeks I went to my primary and they gave me toridol in the office the first visit, it decreased pain for 2hrs and then pain was back at full force. They also put me on raglan, benedryl, and ibuprofen. That didn't help, it just put me to sleep. That was a tuesday, I went back Friday. Then I was prescribed rizatriptan to take with raglan. It helped decrease pain but pain keeps returning. I just went back Monday and now they have me on a muscle relaxer, prednisone, raglan, and rizatriptan. It literally takes 2hrs to kick in and then it knocks me out after making me feel extremely drunk. So now I am here in week 3 of migraine pain. I've been talking to a friend about my situation and since meds are clearly not giving me any sort of relief from the migraine symptoms I think it is time to be referred to a specialist. I am not happy about my experience with my primary, too many drugs. So any advice???
Thank you,
Krystal

Sadly I have no answers for migraine my experience talking to other people is we're all different. I'm on day 59 of a continus migraine with dizziness, aura, light sensertivity and to sound also. Not much fun and I'm starting to feel depressed which I guess is no surprise. The doctors got me on a progesterone only pill to try and level out my hormones so far no help. At this stage I can't decide if the pain is less than when it all started or if I've just adapted to it. Anyway enough of me I just wanted to say there is hope I know one woman who had migraine every day for 20 years before finding her trigger of caffeine so no matter how long it takes or lasts the answer can be found.
Check your iron guys! I've Ben coming to HW for a while now, reading, and checking things. I recently, like 2 days ago, found out my iron was low after months of thinking I just had this crazy head pain and migraines. Now after 2 days of taking iron pills, I feel 80% better.

I’m on day 100 of a migraine. I have tried every med combination in the book 📚
5-6 hospitalizations for IV DHE. That temporarily brings the pain down to a 5-6.
Most days I live with a 6-7 migraine. Next week I’m trying deeper nerve blocks
Under sedation. I believe the pain is coming from my neck though. Each day is

I’ve been out of work, may not be able to go back. That saddens me.
Best wishes to all that fight any headaches !
I’m in the medical profession and I still haven’t found a way to make them go away.

I am currently on day 14. This is my 1st time to ever experience anything like this. I have an appointment with an neurologist next month but am constantly struggling with what is the right next step. I have been to the ER 3 times and been found out I am highly allergic to meds like Imetrix. My nurse practitioner can not help me any further and I'm confused and in major pain. And direction and wisdom is appreciated.
Do not give up finding neuro that can help you.

I suffer from migraines that can go forever if untreated. Fortunately I get painless migraines, but they are not very nice all the same, as there are other bad symptoms, such as lack of ability to concentrate on anything, and lethargy.
I have also cured my aura/migraine problem. I know what the triggers are. Maybe some of you will benefit from what works for me. The triggers for my migraines are Chocolate, red wine with lots of skin crushed into it, natural raspberry flavouring, Sulphur Dioxide (SO2), and high GI food in the evening. Sometimes there is an x factor that I cannot identify.
If I am getting serial auras and migraines, then I find that two of the triggers are actually the cure, and I can stop them. I'm not sure why - you can google hormesis if interested, as that may be part of it, or otherwise it might change some sort of cycle.
So if I eat about 20 grams of milk chocolate before lunchtime, and have 100 mls of red wine at about 5 or 6 pm - with a drop of hydrogen peroxide in it (google that - most wine stores sell it in little dropper bottles for those with SO2 sensitivity), then I will be migraine free and the chain will be broken.
I hope this cures somebody. I came across the cure by happenstance, and was very surprised, as I felt I was being naughty and silly. In reality it was helpful experimentation.
The other thing I do that offers a lot of relief/fast recovery in the mornings after an aura/migraine, is I chew (really really chew and swallow) a level teaspoon of brown/black linseeds, take one or two Ibuprofen tablets, and take about one eighth of a magnesium citrate supplement capsule (about 100 mg or so, I open the capsule and poor most of it out, then close it again and swallow with the Ibuprofen). If I have too much Magnesium Citrate, I get really really tired.
Good luck everybody

Yes, I have had them last a long time. And, I took a ton of ibuprophen and I do believe I was having more trouble because of it. Eventually, my neurologist helped me work it out and they pretty went away. I was actually DX'd with MS for several years. Then, not because I had lesions on my brain (still get them) but no-where else. I often wonder if they might be migraine lesions.
But as said we all have our own unique bodies so my experience may be nothing like someone elses.
