My name is Danielle I am 32 years old, mother of 2. I have had the worst month of my life! I will give you some background and maybe someone can help me understand all of this better. My Mom has had 2 bouts with BC. 1st time in her early 40's 2nd time around a 55. I started having annual mammoggrams atr age 30. 1st mammo they found microcalcifications, had a stereotactic biopsy, everything was good. Last years mammo came back fine. This year actually, July 27th I had my yearly mammo, after waiting a week for results, they said I needed a ultrasound due to a "higher density" area. I waited another week for the US results, and they came back in normal range, but radiologist wanted me to have a MRI... after wating over a week for those results, my Dr called to tell me that I need to have this removed. My Dr is a OBGYN, and she is being very vauge, she can't tell me what it is but it needs to come out and be biopsied. She said a stereotactic was out of the question. I am a nervous wreck, and I really have no answers to anything. I am going to see a surgeon next Thursday, so I assume I will have more answers then, but all of this waiting is killing me! Can anyone shed light on this for me???

Sorry Danielle...not enough info for me to offer anything except a cyber hug. Can you ask them for a copy of the reports? Good for your doc for being proactive though.
80% of breast lumps are benign. And in younger women, screening is harder because of the density of breast tissue, so perhaps they are just wanting to be extra sure.

Hello Danielle! Good for you in being proactive in getting mammo's at your age. My dd's are having to fight to get their's. (ages 26 and 30) I wish that I had some answers for you right now, but as Lori said, you just don't have enough info. Call and get a copy of your reports. Do you think that if you went in and spoke personally with your obgyn that she would give you more info? If so, call and tell them that it is imperative that you see her today. Or what about your family physician? The waiting is horrid. I am so sorry. about the only advice that I can give you is to try and stay as busy as possible until you either talk with one of your physicians or see the surgeon. When you do go to the appointment, please be sure and take someone w/ you. You will be given lots of info and trust me, you won't remember most of it. Also, if you have a small tape recorder, take that w/ you. You might also want to get a notebook and write down all of the questions that you think of between now and your appointment. Make sure that you get answers to them. We all know what you are going through, so please don't hesitate to come back here and post. We will be w/ you through this journey. Remember, as Lori said, 80% of breast tumors are benign.

A biopsy is the best way to go. It is easy day surgery and you will have good answers when you get a pathology report back. The needle test I feel is great when it tells you easily that cancer is present, but when it is negative I begin to worry about whether the exact area was hit for the sample which is small. I have heard of several samples being taken which is probably better, but all those needles would bother me more than having a regular biopsy done. My daughter had the needle test done which told her she indeed did have a malignancy, then it gave her time to line up a breast surgeon and a plastic surgeon so she could have both done at one time. Don't worry until you KNOW there is something to worry about. Even an early cancer is very treatable and altho isn't as good news as benign, it is not as terrible as it sounds. Thank you all so much for your replies!! I wish i had more information, but like I said my Dr was so vauge when she called to tell me. I willl keep you all posted, and thanks for all the support.. I know i am going to need it!!!
