I decided that I am going to change therapists. My current one was great in the beginning but now I feel like such a burden on her and everytime I go in, I talk about the same darn stuff. I can tell that she is getting tired of it because now instead of sitting there listening to me, she gets up and walks around, waters her plants and I feel like I'm talking to an empty room. I don't know if it is me or her... Has anyone had to change therapists because you feel like you weren't getting anywhere and you were wasting yours and your therapist's time?
I will let you know how it goes. Thanks :)

Wow Dbab! She actually wanders the room while you're talking to her??? That is SO unprofessional. IS she covered under insurance or are you paying her out of your pocket? I would seriously SAY something to her or atleast write her a note when you leave. Tht is so disrespectful and I'm happy to hear that you're going to look for somebody else.
I know there may come a point in time when one outgrows Therapist. They've done all they can and it's either a good thing, meaning the client is so much better and doesn't need therapy anymore or that this therapist has done all he/she can for the client.
What kind of therapy are you doing? Is it just the talking or does your T have you doing outside exposure therapy? I do Cognitive behaviour Therapy and not only does my T and I talk, she makes me DO things! I have daily "CBT" chores I do to make sure the agrophobia doesn't take over, I also do alot of writing to her (Once a day so she knows my frame of mind - Good or bad - and gets to hear about my day.) and she also helps me out whenever she can. Remember last year and the whole ROOT CANAL thing?? Yuk! Well, she came with me when I had it done. I was completely terrified!! She held my hand the whole time and talked to me, got me breathing and calm during the waves (many waves!) of anxiety that took place during that procedure.
I hope you find somebody well suited for YOU. Remember this is ALL about you, that is what Therapy is for! Don't ever feel bad, selfish or anything because that is their JOB! To listen and help, not act bored or go around water plants. I'm calling bullsh!t on that one, she's unprofessional! DO that on her own time, not while the clock is ticking during your session.
Good luck with that!
Lots of hugs.

Hi Dbab!
I'd almost have to stop in mid sentence and ask her when she's watering her plants, if she'd like to be alone?!
Maybe that's part of her therapy??? It doesn't sound very therapeutic to me though. You know therapists are human and like us they tend to have moods and whatnot, but this behavior sounds very unprofessional. I would either talk to her about this, or just seek another therapist.
Best wishes to you and Hugs, Teri

Don't let it bother you. I am on my third one. I am their customer and if I am not comfortable with them I don't have a problem taking my business to someone else.
We can respond to irritation with a smile instead of scowl, or by giving warm praise instead of icy indifference. By our being understanding instead of abrupt, others, in turn, may decide to hold on a little longer rather than to give way. Love, patience, and meekness can be just as contagious as rudeness and crudeness.

Thanks guys... now that I know I need a new one, the dreaded part is finding a new one. This is the worst part. :(

Hi dbab! I just wanted to wish you good luck and if you notice on your first visit there that they have a lot of plastic fake plants, it may mean something! :)
