Just found this great site while searching chicken allergies
I have what I thought was stomach problems for the last 10 years I even had surgery On my esophagus (Nisan wrap) After all these years I have finally narrowed it down to chicken, I used to eat it every day because I love it and thought it was the friendliest food, poison to me. When I eat it I am OK until I get woken up about 3am with massive inflammation bloating, and itching. The next day, all my joints ache, zero energy level, all I want to do is lie down and rest
I just had 3 weeks of excellent health then I ate chicken for supper and it started the cycle. I was feeling so good I was fooled into eating it, it was cooked for the family either that or nothing. I now know for sure chicken is the trigger because this has happened 4 times while monitoring. Problem is the inflammation and bloating does not go away every night when I stop eating it. I know the chicken starts it off.
I don't know about the inflamation thing but it may be that you're not allergic to the chicken at all.. but to the stuff they inject them with to keep them well while growing in very crowded conditions. Many chickens get growth hormones and antibiotics... My daughter can't eat beef for this reason and she is allergic to almost all antibiotics and sulfa. We don't know if the beef full of antibiotics made her allergic to the drugs or the drugs made her allergic to the beef full of antibiotics... Makes me dizzy just thinking about it.
Have you tried organic or free range chicken? You might be able to eat that without a problem. Just my 2¢. ~ Jeannie

I have heard others here talk about having an allergy to chicken and yes inflammation is a sign of an allergic reaction. That is why it is so important to someone that is having an anaphylactic reaction to call 911, or talk to their Dr.'s about keeping epinephrine (an 'epi' pen) on hand to inject as soon as possible in these cases.
...Welcome John, and I think that you should try the chicken that Jeannie has suggessted ,if you havent already ..........there is one called "Prime" but I dont know if thats just here in Canada or not but it is the best tasting chicken ever .......OMG.......I dont know what I would do if I could not eat chicken : I have crohns and we eat it around here at least 2 or 3 times weekly....but I do make all different things with it ........Lets hope it isnt an allergy just all the crap they inject to keep it fresh and whatnot .............Just wanted to welcome you and hope you have a great day ............you will find great peeps on this forum and they are always here to lend an ear (finger) to help out .........please keep posting and let us know how you are doing..........Take care and God Bless .....Lyn........BTW ,you mentioned bloating and inflammation.....do you get cramping and the diarrhea(sp) as well?....Hope you get some relief soon ...........be well ......Lyn
My wife told me that in Canada they don’t inject stuff in them like the U.S. I could be wrong? I have seen that Prima chicken, but I am totally abstaining until hopefully it goes away. I also had homemade red wine that fateful night (sulphate) I'm sure that did not help
The 3 weeks I felt great I was away. (California vacation) I am analyzed everything I did and ate during that time and trying to mirror it.
Oops, red wine? Many people with allergies find that they are unable to tolerate red wine due to the fact that it contains more histamines than other wines. Histamines are what are released causing allergies! Perhaps the combination, if you are in fact allergic to chicken is what made you ill? Take care! Hugs, Teri
I've recently been trying to figure out the source of mild hives I have been getting on the inside of my arms, outside my shoulders, and around my waist. The mild hives are more or less a raised collection of raised tiny bumps scattered, with a couple dime-sized patches here and there on my arms. There's no major swelling but it has been a bit itchy....
I recently stopped eating chicken this past week (after reading the posts here) because since last year, I no longer can handle raw chicken in my hands for cutting. It would irritate the skin and make it itchy until I would wash them well and use a lotion. So, recently in the past week I stopped eating chicken, and the itching subsided completely over the past 2-3 days. I didn't need to use any ointments / lotions / aloe. I have yet to see the hives subside, but I expect it will be another week before this happens.
Yesterday, I had a load of scrambled eggs at a brunch, and this turns out to MAYBE have started some itching again... So, I am dropping eggs from my diet as well. The itching has pretty much stopped, but during the time before, I've used cortisone 10 and Elidel (a past prescription) to keep the itching & swelling down. Things are better.
My (mostly mild) allergies consist of mild asthma associated with shedding dogs / cats, ragweed and pollen seasons. My dad is also allergic to eggs. I highly doubt my hive outbreak is related to anything else but chicken. I was never allergic to dogs before college, but somehow during that time or after there's been enough boozing that may have triggered / enhanced a few of these allergies.

I get hives, sometimes from things I've never figured out what they were yeah - cuz I don't eliminate anything, and they go away after some Prednisone and Benedryl - thank goodness!!
You can develope allergies to things as an adult that you didn't have as a kid. Likewise, you may outgrow some that you did have when you were younger.
Generally, what you've done by trying to figure out what it is causing these nasty little itchy things is the best route to go! You might want to see your Dr. and perhaps he/or she will have some other ideas and perhaps something to help you with the itching!
I don't have a lot of patches like those pictures. They are pink in color where I have scratched them, and most are very small and not collected as if I had goose bumps. Most you can't see but you can feel them when you rub down the skin. I do not have any on my chest, just around love handles to the ribs. I have them on the inside of my forearms and a bit on my elbows. One collection on my right forearm is nickel-sized and raised...
I had a part of a turkey sandwich on Thursday night, and I noticed Friday-Saturday that I had another flare-up just as I have been clearing up. I didn't start to realize there may be some allergies with the turkey as well. No chicken since a week and a half ago. I had a turkey wrap on Saturday, and I started to have some itching again that night.
I may go to the allergist soon if this [insert other words here] keeps up.
Hi all! New to this site and so far all i've read seems to be so helpful. i just found out my 19 month old is allergic to chicken and i am trying to get as much info as i can find. she has this same bumpy itchy rash thing in varios places that is making the whole family crazy.
if anyone out there has any other sites i might try to find more specifics to chicken allergies i would be greatful. i've read the links posted here in the past nad it has helped but there just isn't much out there
Your poor baby! I wish I could offer more help and I will try to see what I can find out, but my strongest suggestion at this time, would be to seek out the help of an allergist or even a dermatologist for help with this rash - and no more chicken!
thanks teri16 for the site. i just wish chicken allergy was more talked about. it doesn't seem to be on of the big ones so it gets little press. we took our daughter to the allergist because of the rash and that is how we discovered this chicken thing.
there are so many products out there with those little warnings about milk and eggs being in them but not for chicken. i've checked a few things in the cupboard and found chicken or part of it listed as an ingredient. you would really be surprised. now i am wondering if it could be all poultry and eggs too. i guess a little trial and error will help.
Well, after some time about two weeks ago, I had full intentions to see an allergist or dermatologist... All the hives similarities started going away.
I have done nothing different with my diet, still had some bumps here and there (on my arms, sides, love handles), but it had been three weeks since eating any chicken. So, I pretty much knew it was not a chicken allergy. Had some pizza with chicken on it, and no fresh outbreaks on my arms or anywhere...
Turns out, it was probably just A LOT of STRESS... Anyone with a similar outbreak might think of just taking care of what's on their mind and maybe it will all go away.
Thanks for sharing that, Hulk! yeah It really is amazing how stress can affect your body! It can narrow arteries and cause people problems with their heart - so I'm sure it can create other problems as well.
I am happy to find you. I thougt I was the only one with this strange allergy.
Since 10 years my problem is very strange. When I began to be allergy to chicken at 3 times I was sick in the night. nausea vomiting and 3 days feeling very bad.
I have stopped eat chicken for 3 years. And had tried to eat chicken again. For a year it was ok, but the last times I ate chicken I was feeling like strangled. It was very hard to swallow. I was affraid and then stop to eat this again, and I have never try to eat chicken again in my life since.
My question is: is it possible to be allergic but to have some period without symptoms like that?
That is very odd that this allergy would come and go like that? Unless during that time, perhaps the chicken you were eating maybe ate different feed, or were not getting injections of anything? Are you allergic to Turkey?
What you are experiencing with this 'strangling' is called anaphylaxis and can cause death!! I would stay away from poultry and go to your Dr. and have some allergy tests done to check this out, in case it is what they are giving the chicken? - so that you do not have this happen with other foods unknowingly.
