Went to new doc today for arthritis. He said from my symptoms it sounds like RA but he wants to do labwork (here we go again 
) and xrays! (finally, no doc has wanted to do these before). Not sure of the results from those yet, but after looking at my joints, in particular my hands, and with all the swelling he prescribed Clinoril. I was kinda nervous about taking it because of my past history with stomach problems associated with the NSAIDS. I had a big dinner and took one tonight and havent had much problems other than mild burning which is nothing compared to some of the others I have takes so I'm quite happy about that. Anyone been on this before? Does it help with pain as well as swelling? Thanks!

hey Kimber how ya doing?
i was on Sulindac (clinoril) about 5 years ago for my joints and RA. ...but then again, the RA was out of control and very hard to treat & still is so i wasn't on it too long. but, it is very successful in many many people. it's a good medication.
the best suggestions i can make to prevent and relieve GI effects:
- if you do indeed have a GI bleed...don't take it. same goes for ulcer disease.
- keep taking what you are for your stomach, whether it be prevacid, prilosec, etc...
- there are additive GI risks when and if you take aspirin, alcohol, corticosteroids and other NSAIDs.
- good idea to always take it with food, milk or antacids (unless told otherwise by your doc).
- you might get dyspepsia (acid indigestion),so if possible if a person takes the pill with a glass of water and sits up right for at least 30 minutes...a lot can be avoided.
if you ever see really really black stool...call the doc ASAP. same goes for vomiting.
other than that....go for it! i really hope it provides some relief! it's a pretty safe med...no different than any other thing out there! LOL. but the food and antacid thing is most important. these risks are like the same for any NSAID.
oh, i do remember that i was sun sensitive! 
i think it did help a little bit for my RA pain...but as i said, none of the nsaids or cox2's really had a handle on the pain. but at the begining, when the pain and swelling wasn't this bad as it is now...i think it did help. best wishes! erin

Well, so far so good. Haven't had any stomach issues other than very mild burning, of course I've been eating like an absolute pig before taking one!
I'll know more after taking it for a few weeks and it gets into my system but so far it's helping somewhat with the swelling. Painwise I haven't noticed it doing anything but i'll give it more time. The only thing that I've really experienced side effect wise is a feeling of nervousness. Is this stuff suppose to help headaches? Maybe I'm just having a really good day but I get headaches on a daily basis and today..zip. I'll let you know in a few weeks how things are going, but so far I might actually be able to tolerate this one Erin, thanks for the advice, you are always so helpful!

Kimber! cool beans!...I wish you continued luck with the Sulindac. It might well be that by the drugs natural ability acting as an antinflammatory, it will decrease or alleviate and prevent your headaches all together. 2 for the price of one!
I thought very highly of the Enbrel when I was on it...it helped the AS, cleared a lot of skin discolorations, eased the RA in the spine and back and hips. BUT...all good things had to come to an end.
Now on Humira...it's great that not only does it promise to slow RA...but it also is suppose to help the Crohns too.
I like when 1 med can cover many areas.

Clinoril still working good, no headaches still this is wonderful! Got lab results back, xrays were normal, sed rate normal, rf factor negative but extremely high ANA. He's kinda puzzled and wants to run more tests, but at least I'm feeling a bit better. He said there are types of arthritis that show a high ana but didn't go into details. Any thoughts?

I'm finding I have another side effect of irritability for a few hours after I first take it, its not horrible but I do hope that goes away lol. I forgot to take it this morning and WOW, you never know how bad you were actually hurting until you start feeling better and it comes back. I don't think I will ever forget to take it again!
