I must have had my head in the oven when I bought
this place in the middle of God knows nowhere. Hey,
it's great to have 1.1 acres until you have to mow it.
Then, there's all the weedeating. Not just around the
house, mind you, but around the barn, too.
Last week, I was mowing by the barn and a wasp
got me on the backside of my left thigh. I was
thrilled. I waited till dark, when all the little
b@stards were back in the nest (somewhere behind
the cabinets in the barn). I slid up the door, very
quietly. The last thing they ever heard was the
sound of the 20 ft wasp and hornet killer coming
in their direction. I haven't been up there for a
while so I guess I'll go see if any of them
are left
However, I have just gotten home from the ER. Seems
I was weedeating at the back of my house and I got
stung by something that looks like a wasp but is
a golden color. The sob got me once and then a
second time where he lost his stinger.
That was yesterday. When I got up, I noticed how
red and swollen it was. The redness kept increasing
and it kept itching and shooting pains here and
there. MK said I needed to go to the ER right
away, so I did.
The dr came in and she marked the area of swelling
and redness. I felt like I was with Dr Sean Bush in
Venom ER. The treatment is oral benedryl and
an antibiotic. I shouldn't have needed an
antibiotic for a bug sting. I think that the
infection that sent me to the hospital for 8
days really must have weakened my immune system.
So, after getting my script filled, I headed home
like a woman on a mission. I know where they live.
I saw them going in there (the corner of my house).
You must picture this: My car is running and the bright
lights are on. I got my two-step kitchen stool and
the can of 20' biter killer. No 20' for me. Oh no,
I put the stool much closer. darn thing wasn't
on level ground and I feel down.
Now, thoroughly irate and feeling stupid, I leveled
it, climbed up, and to one of my favorite Joe Cocker
songs loudly helping me on, I attacked. I sent the
spray up there. The wind swung around and got me.
I'm planning on being up before dawn to try it again.
I'd like to smoke them out but I'd probably set
the house on fire.
And just before leaving for the ER, my neurologist
called. He wants me to have another angiogram like I
had back in 2001. That was a Depends moment. It's
hard to be credible to your dr when you can't stop
laughing. I told him that the first one was the one
thing that had made me to quit smoking after almost
40 years. I told him I would think about it
and call him back and I will, someday.
Now it's time to take 2 shots, about 25 pills and
relax. Good thing one of the 25 is a valium.
Shaking off the dust, Jo-Ann
