Howdy all! I was wondering if anyone who has neck problems (have spurring and possible AS in neck, already in knees) has tried any of those contour/memory foam pillows. My husband has DDD in the cervical and possibly in the lumbar region and probably needs something too. Any advice?
I, too, would like to know if anyone has tried the memory foam mattresses and/or pillows. I have cervical and lumbar DDD, had back surgery, have arthritis, fibromyalgia, and suffer from migraines and headaches that I wake up with starting in my neck from all the crazy positions my neck has to be in because of having to sleep on three pillows at night. They are just way too expensive to purchase if they don't help. And I sure could use some help.

Hello! Hhmmm memory foam pillows... I hear that they are good for you, however, for me personally, they were not... I tried my husbands out (he doesn't have anything wrong, he just wanted one) and I felt worse in the morning... I'm sure it has been beneficial for many people, and they will be along shortly... I dont' use it as far as the pillow however I can't afford the memory foam mattress either. I did purchase a memory foam mattress top made by King Koil and it runs for about $100 for king size. It was well worth the $100 IMO. I definitely have better mornings since buying it.
My hubby and I just bought a memory foam mattress about a month ago. I have fibro and arthritis and it took me about a week to get used to it, but I definately sleep better on it than our old sleep number bed. No tossing and turning and no waking up all the time like I used to. Most of the joint pain is better except for my back which seems unaffected. I tried the pillows but I did not like them. Like Ducky experienced, they seem to make the neck area worse in the morning. There are different densities tho, I tried a very stiff kind and perhaps a softer version would be better. I hope you find something that helps.

If you want to sleep on heaven, see about Tempur Pedic. It basically hurts to lay down on anything, but @ my boyfriend's ....he's that Temperpedic mattress and it takes away any pressure on the joints while in bed. He has some spinal stenosis and bone spurs in his lumbar and upper spine....and it benefits him as well. It's the only thing I can sleep on!
Yeah, I don't sleep during the week! Just on weekends!

just got the pillow and I think it is really helpful. The thing about the mattress is that it contours to your body shape and if you need to change position, you actually need to push yourself out of the "hole" created by your body. So when your joints hurt and your neck hurts, this is not a good nor easy thing to do. once you are sleeping, it is ok. it is only bad if you are having a restless night.
Thanks for the replies. I do have one of those memory foam covers for the bed (can't afford the whole mattress yet) and am going tomorrow or Friday to check out some stores for the pillows. The neck is getting worse by the day but still have to wait until March for the Rheumo appointment. It's been 7 seven years since I started having problmes but was diagnosed with FMS. Now the MRIs are showing possible AS (this is from my nerologist who did EMGs on me again).
