coping with depression

I was wondering what some of y'all might do to make the depression a bit better.  I've heard exercise works but what do you do when you don't have the energy even for that.  I need something to lift my spirits.  I've started a big project and that's repainting our living room and two hallways which that will help some, but I need something more.  any ideas.  I still enjoy reading but only read for a bit in the evening.  Other than that, I really don't have any other hobbies so to speak.
I try and listen to music from happier times. I usually find it helps uplift me. I also try and read good books that are also uplifting. I try and take walks, anything i can think of to get out of the house. I will call friends and go and viist, see a movie, just about anything to get me out of the house.

We can respond to irritation with a smile instead of scowl, or by giving warm praise instead of icy indifference. By our being understanding instead of abrupt, others, in turn, may decide to hold on a little longer rather than to give way. Love, patience, and meekness can be just as contagious as rudeness and crudeness.

Hi Angel,

I like walking too. I know that when I least feel like it, I need to push my can out the door. I have been driving to nearby hiking trails. It is really a great lift to get into the woods.

I also listen to books on tape. So if I have a big job in the kitchen or lots of laundry, I plug in a book on tape. (I get them from the library). I actually go through withdrawal if I finish a book and don't have another one ready to listen too.
