Could it be menopause at 41??????

confused  How do you know if you are going through menopause and need hormones or if you are just plain depressed and need anti depressants?  I have been on anti-depressants for over 12 years, for my horrible moodiness.  I have been on all of them. Not one works better than the other, but does seem to take the "edge" off. I had a TAH 2 years ago, which left me with one ovary. I no longer have periods, but I do experience the pms still.  Anyone have any advise?
Welcome Kimbo!!

Hmmmmm . . . there is a test available at the drug store now which tests for menopause. I have never used it, but I did see it at the store and saw it advertised. That would be one way of finding out something.

What does your doc think of this dilema?? I don't know enough about the subject to offer any other advice except to see your doc. . . or talk to him/her at your next visit.

Maybe some of the others will know more about this.

How did you find us??

Again . . Welcome to the forum!!

Blessings!

Hi, Kimbo,
Ditto on what Rosie said. Having a complete and total hysterectomy at age 25 threw me into the "hormone" pill pit. It was bad. I was on hormones for years and then I just stopped taking them. I plan to get doc to put me back on. I try not to be a grump, but I am sometimes. Happy hunting!

"Lefty"

There is no such word as can't. Can't simply means wouln't. Grab as much as life as you can. Future is a long way away for those who don't believe. Don't build a foundation of life on sand. It will take it away with the tide. Love a little more, be unkind a lot less.

Hey Lefty . . . just a thought . . . because of our autoimmune illness, you and I should be very cautious about taking estrogen. It is well known for causing flare of illness.

A website you might want to try is mercksource.com. The Merck Manual is a medical manual that is used by doctors and pharmacists and contains a ton of information. I did a search on menopause and found information that should answer your questions but is too long to include here. Just type in menopause in the search bar and then read the topics listed under "patients and caregivers". I hope this helps.
Gretchen,

What a great resource!!! Thanks . . . I'll bookmark it.
