could this be a sign of the mania of bipolar?

Yesterday, my friend asked and I did to cut her hair pretty short and to put red and light brown highlights.  It, in a way, surprised me with her calling me, asking what I was doing and if I would be interested in cutting and highlighting her hair.  Now, once before I did cut her hair but that was only to get the dead ends off and such.  However, that was only a couple of weeks ago.

AuSsie

AuSsieGirl,

Your friend could be showing signs of manic depression, it is always triggered by season change.(late Sept.,Oct., and spring  around Easter weekend) What you have described CAN be a sign of manic depression but it is hard to make a diagnoses from just that alone. It is usually accompanied by other symptoms that you may not have noticed but it will have to be determined by a Doctor.

Other signs that you should watch for are unusuall behaviour such as: depression.....suicidal thoughts........aggression, anger and/or violence......rapid mood swings..........always talking religion(saw the Lord).........rapid cycling (always talking about things that arn't making any sense(won't shut up)).........Dual personality.......kind hearted (more than usuall).........urge to want to spend money on thigs she doesn't need or urge to spend other people's money.......poor sleeping habits.....poor eating habits......these are some of the signs to look for.

If she is showing more than one of these symptoms than she should be reffered to a Doctor.

Good Luck

Randy (Ontario, Canada)

I would say that if she is displaying more than one of these symptoms than it's POSSIBLE that she may be manic.

AuSsie G, Hi this is Sheryl, I osted youthis morning on the fibro forum abotu the firbro book, Is this friend here the same friend who has the fibro. i was kinda nervous to suggest that you check out the bipolar site for her as well. Did not think the others would agree with it, but it could be a factor too? Dont know just athought, take care......Sheryl
I'm a little conused with what you're asking but the only person/friend that i talk about, here, is my friend who has FMS. I don't think she is bipolar. she just doesn't have the "right" symptoms nor does she really act like it, if ya know what i mean.
The one you mentioned with the hair cut on the begiining of this thread? Anyways I thought maybe some of the symptoms you mentioned with your friend with FMS sounded like depression which would ofcourse be understandable with FMS, but bipolar corssed my mind too. I was checking out the bipolar forum, becasue I have 2 kids one 5 she is mildly autistic and is bipolar, and my boy is 10 and bipolar, its runs thru the family, so i am on here just trying to learn more information, and happened to notice your name on this forum too. Hope your friend with FMS gets to feeling more like herself. Take care...love...sheryl
