Hi Jayjerseyboy, I wanted to welcome you to healing well forum. We are glad to have you. I have never taken Cymbalta for depression. Been on a lot of other antidepressants thought ...Just wanted to say that I am sure that someone will be along shortly to answer your post. Take care ~ Elisha
I've been on it for a month. No real results yet. But I've just lost my job, had terrible migrianes, kidney stones. I do hear that its good not only for emotional reasons but it helps physically too (ie Headache, neck pain, stomach pain, etc.) b/c it helps with norepinephrine as well as sertonin. I really hope it helps with you. You may want to consider asking your doc to up the dose. 30mg is really low. Usually you take 30mg 2xdaily, or even 60mg 2 x daily. ~May God bring an extra smile to your face today, and extra reason to laugh, and a calm spirit to your soul
Am suffering from what I assume are cymbalta withdrawals; have been on it for about 5 months (maybe more. can't remember). I get what feels like "electrical" surges in my body, seems to start in my head. I've had crying fits, even breaking down in grocery story. I'm mean, and I mean mean. Even my beloved who rarely complains is complaining. I want things done my way and I want them done right, right now!!! No more easy-going me, which I was a lot better at when I was on cymbalta. The drug has apparently messed up my stomach big-time. I've had to take (not all at same time) Nexium, prilosec and prevacid. And now I'm on a GI cocktail to help with stomach pain until I have a "scope" Tuesday. Even my paiin mgment dr. sent word to my p doc to get me off cymbalta. My primary doc said it can cause stomach ulcers, and I had one about 4 years ago that took a year to heal. I started on 30, ended up on 90, and within two weeks went from 90 to zero. I pray that you can tolerate cymbalta, and I know we all have different metabolisms. God bless
I was on cymbalta for a year. I has less anxiety, less depression by a mile. Now I have to come off it because I'm trying to get pregnant, and my ob will not allow it, so i have to go back to prozac, which i've taken on and off for twenty years. We'll see. I think Cymbalta is a far superior drug for me. Good luck to you. Although, it never did make a difference with my chronic pain. Rydstrom
I have been on Cymbalta for 11 months. I an weaning off due to a 30 pound weight gain. Please if anyone knows someone going on it, tell them NOT TO!!!!
Hi mitycateye, I wanted to welcome you to Healing Well Forum. We are happy to have you. I am sorry that you are having so many problems on Cymbalta. If your reactions are this extreme I would suggest calling your doctor if they continue for another day. This just be a medication that you can not tolerate and sometimes that does happen. Please do let us know how you make out. Take care.

Hi 110311, Welcome to Healing Well also, glad to have you. I am truly sorry for your weight gain on this medication. This is sometimes a side effect of antidepressants. I do believe that the benefits that they provide far out weight the negative. It is extremely important to remember that many people take this medication with great success in reducing their depression. That is after all the whole point in taking it. Take care....

Thank you for your reply. i did call the Dr. and was told to quit taking it. It is just about worn off. It's frustrating trying to find something that works. Lexapro makes me angry, wellbutrin didn't do anything nor did Celexa. Effexor just made me hungry. I think I've run through the gambit and not sure where to go next on this. Truly, I'm not sure that I need it. My husband is the one that's Hypomanic (we think).
It has been nearly two weeks, I think, since I took last Cymbalta. I'm still having "electrical surges" in my body that i think are from Cymbalta. I'm still mean, mean, mean and can't seem to help it. I cry at the drop of a hat and feel most comments to me are negative and start bawling. Anyone else gone through this???
Paper, was the Cymbalta just not working for you? why did you stop taking it? I dont mean to be nosey here.... If your intent was not to be on any medication at all then you will most likely have a few more days of this side effect. If you are open to trying another antidepressant then perhaps you should contact your physician and let them know how you feel. If you started on something else it would curb these symptoms of coming off the Cymbalta. The brain surges is the serotonin level in your brain decreasing down to its normal or regular level. It is a pretty nasty feeling I know. Try to drink lots of water to flush your system, some say it works, I dont know that it does or not but it couldnt hurt. Take care and please keep us updated.

I gained about 30 pounds from the paxil. So far I lost 13 pounds.Because I was getting depressed a lot I started smoking again. I want to quit.I just hope that Cymbalta will help me.Paxil is also a very tough drug to come off of. I have major mood swings. And lack of confidence.

Hi mxm538, I wanted to welcome you to Healing Well forum. We are happy to have you. I hope the Cymbalta works well for you. I have heard some really good things about it. Please do feel free to post often we look forward to hearing more from you. Take care.
Els, thank you for your response! You are always so helpful and so kind. (I can be nice to you because you are not family nor "friend." I don't understand that about myself. I had to come off Cymbalta because from Day 1 on it I had horrible GERD. Turns out my ulcer came back and brought a friend. My post-op report from a scope says I have a (whatever all this means) tertiary esophageal spasms, two ulcers, gastric antrum "severely erythematous with lower part of stomac "very peristaltic, small hiatal hernia, severe pylorus spasm. Apparently the Cymbalta and my ulcer history combined to provide a mess in my tummy. I"m seeing my dr. tomorrow. He had wanted to put me on Wellbutrin, but he says I cannot take it while I take mepergan (the only thing I can take for severe pain). Does any of this make sense?
I have been taking Cymbalta for a few months now. It seems to have helped for the most part alot. I do get the "surges" as well, but got them on other anti-depressants before anyway. Things at work have greatly improved since I started on it. Home will take alot longer I think. I do get really, really depressed about once every week to week and 1/2, but my doc and therapist know about it and we are working on it.
I have been taking Cymbalta for about 3 weeks. The first 1 1/2 weeks was horrible! I was nauseated, lethargic, no appetite, no energy. I felt totally spaced out & "OUT OF IT"! I did not know if I would be able to continue with this medication, but was determined to give it a month. I am so glad I hung in there! Magically, one day I felt better! I have more energy & can handle stressful situations with ease! I am enjoying the small things in life again. I still don't have much of an appetite, but that is a good thing for me. I am no longer nauseated. I do occasionally feel tired, but typically it's close to bedtime anyway. I do still struggle a little with feeling like getting out of bed in the mornings, but that is improving, as well.
I've been researching Cymbalta. I expect to switch to it in a week. My hope is the drug can help me out of the darkness I'm in. Unfortunately my previous antidepressant was becoming ineffective and then my family suffered tragedy. I keep on hanging on with the hope I can feel well.
