Years ago I was diagnosed with breast fibroids. Last year, my mammogram revealed a cyst which I could not feel. According to a second mammogram and ultrasound, the dr advised it was a fluid filled cyst. Nothing to do.
Waiting for a mammogram appt this year - the cyst has grown to a size I can easily feel, and it is very painful.
What does this mean; how do I get the pain to go away; anything to watch for?
Wait for the doctor's report. Yes, it is hard but every cyst is Not cancer and You Can be one of the lucky ones. Try to keep a positive attitude and Expect the Best!!!!!!

80% of breast lumps are benign. A cyst, by definition, is fluid filled. I think (not sure officially) that they are less likely to be cancerous if it is a cyst. Cancer tends to be solid, but not always.) Best thing is to have a biopsy to be sure. Either have a needle remove some fluid or just have it out.
I have not tried this, but I hear that reducing or eliminating caffeine can have a big impact on breast pain, as well as herbal supplements of evening primrose. Please ask a doctor before doing anything though.

If you can tell this is growing larger, you should definitely call the doctor. Usually a doctor aspirates a cyst, that is takes fluid out via needle. I had a lump 40 years ago which was benign, it turned out to be not a cyst, but the very first thing my doctor did was aspirate it to see if it was a cyst or not. Sonograms were not available back then. When no fluid was found, the lump was biopsied and found to be benign. So why are doctors in 2004 and 2005 playing guessing games? I don't understand. I would insist on at least an aspiration or needle biopsy at the very least. Doctors can not be sure what anything is without proper testing. Hugs and prayers that it is a cyst. Mary K.
Get to the doctor for an exam and make sure what you have is just a cyst. Also, I did do the caffeine thing a long time ago and it did reduce pain and sore spots.
Please, GET IT CHECKED OUT. Do not wait and watch.
Wow - thank you to those who posted a response. It is very comforting and assuring. I did see the doctor and he too told me that painful lumps usually mean cyst, not cancer. I have a diagnostic mammogram next week, and an appt with a surgeon in Feb.
The key word here is "usually". You are certainly doing the right thing by having the diagnostic mammo and the appointment with the surgeon. I hope your appointment is in early February. Waiting is one of the very worst parts of this whole mammagram/biopsy picture. Hugs MK
I was also told that painful lumps are usually cysts, mine turned out to be stage II cancer. Removed lump and two lymph nodes, they say they got it all, but I still have to have chemo and radiation. Please check it out as soon as possible. We care!Tamaralynn

I was told to cut back on the amount of caffiene i was drinkin up to 3 cans of pepsi a day and chocolate?? i cant count.. but i did cut down on both and it seemed to help a little but thats when they thought it was a cyst, mine is solid.. and always tender especially around my period, everytime i go in the doc asks me 'is there a chance you could be pregnant?' im like NO heh now they are checking mine out on thursday, prayers to you... and peace to ease the mind :)
