My pdoc has prescribed this for me for some mania that I have been experiencing. Hopefully it will help with these chronic migraines.
Anyone else tried this?

Please be nice to me, I'm a blood donor (conquering my fear of needles one pint at a time).
Dx: BPII (and everything that comes along with it), BPD? (pdoc trying to figure that out), Chronic Migraines (that means 2-4/week)
Current Rx: Lamictal, Lyrica, Seroquel (prn), Xanax (prn), Vicoprofen (prn), NuvaRing
Past Rx: Prozac, Paxil/CR, Lexapro, Cymbalta, Ambien, Wellbutrin XL, Effexor/XR, Topamax, Neurontin, Trazadone, Klonopin, array of triptans (allergic)
I tried Depakote and it helped my headaches but I stopped it due to nausea, altho many people
use this drug and tolerate the nausea. I have friend with BP and migraines, and she considers it
her lifesaver.

Just have to share this with you..........i have severe nerve damage due to injury. my Dr just prescribed a new seizure and migrain medication that also helps pain associated with nerve damage. It works like a charm, real new on the market. It is LYRICA. Ask your Dr about it. Best to you :)

If you are of childbearing years and want to have children some day...do some research of your own and talk to your pharmacist and doctor about this medication. I had a neurologist once tell me never to take this medication if I wanted to have children...I don't mean to scare you and I don't want to frighten anyone, I just remember this conversation with this doctor and have refused to take Depakote...
Just check it out thoroughly before taking any medication, ok???

(I don't know if there is anything to this...I just remember a medical doctor saying something that hit home to me, I was 22 years old and have always wanted to have children....it scared me and I am glad I didn't wake up one day and find it was too late...Just check it out. I will do the same)

Depakote was a horrible drug for me. I was on it for about eight months, and it did nothing to reduce the frequency of my migraine attacks. 
It did, however, give me really bad eating disorders, like I only would eat one type of microwave popcorn for two months (a box a day). I also went through a rice cakes period, a puffed rice cereal phase (several bags a day), and so forth. I mentally knew this was really messed up, but taking the drug made me powerless to break the disorder. Needless to say, I gained 80lbs in eight months. At that point, I insisted that my doctor put me on something else. I changed to Topamax, which help me drop most of the weight I had gained, but it didn't help my migraine attacks, and I got all the most severe side effects. I'm on my last week of tapering off the Topamax 
. Whoo-Hoo!!! I've switched to Cymbalta now, and I am waiting to see what happens. The only reason I don't know yet is that I've had three rounds of major dental work, and I'm on serious pain medication to handle my TMJ. Wish me luck and I hope that you will have more success with the Depakote than I did.

I have been on Lyrica since December and have had no positive results as in regards to my migraines. The only thing that it has helped is my anxiety and it's not worth paying $35 a month for just that. Plus I have gained 20lbs since I have been on it.
I'm up to 500mg of Depakote now. Still having the migrianes
