First I want to tell MK that I will say a prayer for good news on your mammo. Can anyone tell me the difference between a diagnostic mammo and a regular one? We will be taking my mother to a breast clinic in Rochester N.Y. next week. I think her Dr. is getting concerned now. He can now feel a lump. So they are trying to rule out inflamatory breast cancer. From everything I have read it sounds like all of my mothers symptoms. I will pray that it has just been an infection. I don't know if I can face all of this I'm only 11 months out from DX. It feels like it was yesterday. If anyone knows anything about this type of cancer I would like to hear from you.

My diagnostic mammo this time was a more compressed picture. Before I had enlargements. Also sometimes a sonogram is done while you are there having mammo. IBC is not real common, but lemonz and some others have IBC. They can help you with your questions. IBC can be a problem because it is hard to detect. Will pray your mother will find out soon and hopefully it will not be an aggressive form if she does have cancer, have they determined that yet? Hugs MK

We will be taking my mother on the 15th for another mammo and ultra sound, at a clinic that only does this. My oldest daughter has been to this clinic and said it was very nice. The Dr. said that this is only 1 to 2 % of breast cancers. That is a scarey thought. I have to get going, I have to work tommorrow and 5:30 comes early. Oh I almost forgot I saw my rads Dr. today and she says that all is well everything that I am feeling is normal, you have to love that word. God bless and take care.

Yes it was done and yes the radiologist said it was fine. As I understand it, the first film was not as compressed as last year and the area looked larger, so this time the compression was more like last year and was same size. That doesn't tell me what it is, but the radiologist assured me even when I offered to have a biopsy, that all was well. I will be hoping and praying your mother's tests go well, please let us know as soon as you can. Hugs MK
I always have diagnostics done. There is a radiologist there who reads the films while I wait. Then she goes over them with me. If there is an area of concern, they can go ahead and do compression views, which uses a small, circular foot to compress the area specifically at the point of concern. They can also do sonograms and needle biopsies at the facility I go to, but that may not be the case everywhere. In other words...I don't have to make another appointment and go back if something shows up. We deal with it right then and there. Saves a lot of sweating!

I went to a place like that a few years ago, it was wonderful, but the costs of running the facility and the amount insurance and govt were willing to pay for mammography made it impossible for them to continue. We were referred to another facility but I was not at all pleased with the lack of human touch that I came back to my local hospital where at least you are treated as a person. It was great to learn right away what was happening, tho. Hugs MK
