My doctor wants me to come to his office three days in a row and have IV treatments of Dihydroergotamine (DHE). I have never heard of this ergot medicine- just been browsing the web to learn about it. Was hoping to hear from people who have used this medicine and what their thoughts are.
I have daily moderate to severe headaches- I have had them for about 8 years now.
DHE can be very helpful...it is best when given for a few days in a row, consistently. Make sure that your doctor gives you some kind of anti-emetic (anti-nausea) medication as DHE can make you very nauseated if you do not take something to combat that. Phenergan and Compazine are common, but I prefer Zofran/Kytril.

Hi, I went into hospital to have DHE done. They did it intraveinously but with an infusion of it. I had it for three days running. I also had maxalon or something like that to stop me from feeling sick. It also gave me some cramps in my legs while I was having it. I must say that for the first day or so it seemed to help with the headaches and migraines but on the third day the pain started to come back. Thats not to say that that will happen to you. My headaches are extremely stubborn. Even my neurologist said that I am the most difficult case he has treated for this problem.
