My symptoms are occasional pain, but mostly alternating diarrhea, constipation and narrow stools
Anyone else get these symptoms with this diagnosis
I also am having bouts of const and diarrhea, as well as pain when I push to go to bathroom and when I sit down for a long time. Right now they are attributing it to the diverticulosis. I have many of the symptoms of IBS, so I have a feeling after my colonscopy they will make the diagnosis of IBS and diverticulosis. I am taking this whole thing as a wake up call to take better care of myself and be more aware of my body
I just wished I put 2 and 2 together a long time ago and got looked at. I didn't realize I had an issue until my stools narrowed and I started researching stuff on the net
I have been sent for food allergy panel and that test for lactose intolerance as well
I have colonscopy tomorrow
I am 40 years old
No mention of surgery. THis was my first big flare up
I am going to try to clean up my diet
I'm only 30 and was dx'd with diverticulosis two years ago. Its true that age plays a major factor in this however my case proves that its not always so. I originally got my diverticulosis dx through a barium enema however they were seen in my colonoscopies also.
and i thought i was to young for this at 38..sheesh

Hi,
I usually frequent the Diabetes or GERD forum but saw your post. I have the symptoms of IBS. 3 years ago I had an endoscopy that revealed chronic gastritis and hiatal hernia (thus the dx of GERD). Last year I had a colonoscopy which stated that I had moderate diverticulosis throughout the entire colon. The gastroenterologist said that as people age this often develops. He said if you have constipation problems and strain during BM's it will increase the amount of diverticula that forms. In my case, my colon was clear otherwise with no cancers, abscesses or obstructions. My endo never said anything about removal of the colon other than this can happen in rare cases. He said most people have little or no problems with it, and that symptoms that do present are often similar to IBS. He said that in most cases increasing fiber and water intake and avoiding straining during BM's is all that's needed. He also recommended Activa yogurt if mild symptoms do present.
Has anyone ever had diverticulosis throughout the entire colon? My colonoscopy report says I have stool in some of them - specifically one in the acending colon has stool (and there are multiple diverticula there), and some stool is in the diverticula in the splenic flexure (that is where I have had my last two infections). The docs are talking I will need to possibly have my entire colon removed. I am only 43 and I have Crohns as well.
Anyone with info that would be great if you can write me.
Thanks.
