Dizziness, nausea

For the past three weeks I've had dizziness and nausea.  I had a bunch of tests from my ENT, all normal.  I've been diagnosed with IBS and recently have had this gastric reflux right before I go to bed.  I get this sweatiness, too.  My nose is really stuffed up and my ears feel plugged when I get up and when I'm experiencing symptoms.  I am wondering if it is some kind of food allergy.  The dizziness and nausea go hand in hand, mostly, but sometimes it is bad when I don't eat, too.  Decongestants help but they give me an upset stomach. Did anyone ever have anything like this or something similar?
Hey there,
Welcome to Healing Well :)

I get nausea a lot but what helps is to eat little meals which is important with both IBS and acid reflux. Unfortunately nausea is an everyday thing for some of us IBSers. I am nauseated all day or at some point every day but now sometimes I don't even think about it because it has become so normal to me. That's terrible, isn't it? As far as it possibly a food allergy, do you notice these symptoms shortly after eating certain types of foods? You may want to start writing down your food and your symptoms to see if there maybe a connection. Your nose and your ears might be just random symptoms that happen with it because its not uncommon to experience "piggyback" symptoms. Are you taking anything for your reflux? You may also want to talk to your doctor about antihistimines rather than decongestants... if it is truly allergies, decongestants will not work.

Take Care

Also, it may be possible that the dizziness is caused by dehydration.  I get sickeningly dizzy whenever I am dehydrated (which is quite often, unfortunately).  Have you had a change in medications lately?  That can also cause dizziness and other symptoms.  To kill two birds with one stone, try drinking ginger or peppermint tea throughout the day; supposedly helps with nausea, and would rehydrate you as well.  I really hope you start feeling better soon.
Hi. I've had this happen to me but it turned out to be severe vertigo with no known cause. It went away on its own thankfully.

I'm wondering if you have a fluid buildup in your ears causing this as you say your nost is stuffed and and your ears feel blocked.

Sarita has some excellent suggestions. Can I add that ginger also comes in capsule form which I take. Hope you find relief.

Take care, Softy

Hi disgusted, welcome to the board!
I can't relate to being dizzy but I sure can relate to nausea. I am nauseous at some point everyday. Occasionally I have a day or 2 that I am nauseous ALL DAY. It's terrible. I haven't tried ginger though, maybe I will (I just don't like taking so many things).

My mom has really bad nausea also from her GERD and hiatal hernia and she chews on ginger gum. I will have to ask her where she gets it, I have tried it and it helps and I haven't thought about it in a long time but this thread reminded me. When I find out where she gets it, I'll let you know.

Ok, just talked to my mom. She buys hers at CVS and its called Sea Band (not sure if one word or two) Anti-Nausea gum. She finds it around the dramamine since its marketed for motion sickness and she swears by it. It may or may not work for you but its a suggestion. :)

Thanks, Des, it may be worth a shot.  :-)

Although I hear chewing gum isn't so good for IBS... it's always something.  sad

I really think it is an inner ear problem even if they say it isn't as it feels like there is fluid in my ear when I lay down. The doctor gave me prednisone (which won't help that anyway but would clear my nasal congestion). Of course, the prednisone upsets my stomach. As you know with doctors, you have to stick to your guns or they'll tell you they've never seen or heard of it before.
Hi disgusted.
You may be right, the whole inner ear thing wil cause the dizziness too. Did your doctor say anything about anxiety possibly being a factor?

No, but I read it online somewhere. My biggest problem is that my allergies are just terrible. If they would clear up, I think I would be O.K., plus I don't eat the right things for the IBS or my allergies.
Hello all

Am new to this, i too may have IBS or some sort of colitis, i'm having a colonscopy in April to know for sure.

In January I had excessine non bloody diarrhea for 27 days up to 5 times a day, no matter what I ate. The only thing that bugs me at the moment is the constant dizziness/slight vertigo symptoms I have been experiencing the last 10 days or so. I eat a 98% gluten free diet, but also have a constant discomfort underneath the right rib cage, similar to where your descending colon is located, has anyone here had that sort of symptoms.
