Does Bi-polar worsen as you age?

Does bi-polar get worse as you get older? It seems to have for me, I was diagnosed at 18 and am now 32 and I have gotten alot worse. I am now on Depakote, Klonopin, abilify and trazadone.

Thanks,
Jennifer

I love your screen name haha!

To answer your question, unfortunately for most it does.  I was diagnosed type II at 25, but had all the symptoms in my early teens, but got a promotion to type I a couple of years ago.  (I am 40).  I am on Trileptal, Seroquel, welbutrin and Lamictal.  Finally found the magic potion!  Just make sure you are in frequent touch with your pdoc whenever you have a  swing and don't let it go more than a week or less.  I still have mood swings, mostly between mild-moderate high and mild-moderate low, in most every season except summer.  It seems to stay consistent then.  (I live for summer, go figure).  But overall, it's MUCH milder than it used to be!

I'm afraid it does in the majority of cases.  The trick is to get a handle on it as early as possible and keep it in check.  I was diagnosed BP II when I was 25, now I'm 40 and got promoted to type I.  Nice.  You sound like you're on a good combo, how does it work for you?  Are you pretty stable?
