I am 85 and caring for my husband with stage 4 C. To avoid being incapacitated for any length of time while caring for him, I chose not to have hip surgery but went for the Durolane injection in my hip instead. I have since read many many negative postings about Durolane injection in the knee. I can truly relate to the pain the people have suffered, likely because there isn't too much flesh around the knee to handle the needle. The pain I felt from the 60 mg Durolane in the hip (more like in the groin) was excruciating. I managed to stifle the scream that was bursting inside my head, and the likely l0 seconds that seemed like 10 minutes was something I thought would never end. I've had various short term injections for pain and spasms etc but none were like the Durolane shot. Nevertheless, I was in some discomfort for just a few days after the Durolane, as was anticipated, and by the second week I am now able to do almost all of the things that I couldn't do for the past months prior to the Durolane. I've put my walker away and can easily get in and out of the car. The Durolane is supposed to last for 7-9 months. At first I said "never again", but for the few seconds of pain? yes I would receive Durolane again in lieu of hip surgery. It's been worth it. I would be interested to know of the others who have had Durolane in a hip.
Hello Joangirl & welcome to Healing Well. Thank you so much for the positive post about the Durolane injection. I have had many scopes on my knees over the years & the last scopes were done 3 weeks apart. The last thing was having the series of injections done, while not pleasant, like you, the end result was what I was after. During the summer I am in the pool exercising my knees & so far, knock on wood I have been able to keep replacements off of the table.
I wish continued success with your hip!
