HX of:, Diabetes, Anxiety/ Panic disorder, Gerd, IBS, DDD, MVP and Fibro. (Whew, now I really feel sick)
54 yowf presents with bilateral lower extremity non-pitting edema x 5 days.Patient states " I can no longer wear my shoes".
Petechia present x 2 days . VS=WNL, lungs=CTA, SOB noted with exertion, SAO2= 98%. cap refill=WNL. Unable to palpate pedal pulse.

wow...what a combo, but so common on medsurg floors especially.
i am going to read a little bit and get back to you in a while; but my immediate suspicion would be like a new onset or exacerbation of L sided or R sided heart failure.

OH! well you know....always think of the most critical thing first! are you on morphine or any BP meds that cause lower extremity swelling?
i'm also thinking it's microvascular due to diabetes.
still reading...kinda slow today. bad flare :( but in good spirits.
absent pedal pulses...do you have peripheral artery diseasa? i would get the doppler out on you if i was there! i'de get that pulse! tee hee.
is the swelling ALL day? less after waking up first thing in the am? worse after the days end??
get off them feet and elevate Flop!!!! before ya flop yourself onto the floor.

No PAD, Neuropathy of hands and feet R/T Diabetes. 2+ upon waking 4+ by afternoon.

Ok Ladies...and Gents,
Heres the deal, I know I have not been on much today and here is why.Woke up this morning with 2+ bilateral edemain lower extremities, continues to be non-pitting. Felt really strange when I woke up, hands trembling. Started to walk across the room and could not make it from bedroom to living room without sitting down. So very SOB. Felt like I could not get air all the way into my lungs.My B/P was 111/59, BS 190. Took my usual meds and just sat around for awhile. As you know I live on a lake and my nieghboor who never comes up was next door. So I take myself outside and by the time I got halfway around the fence, I knew it was wrong thing to do. By the time I got to her house I could not talk. Rested a while and made my way back home.All in all it was a terrible day. By this evening the SOB was gone for the most part.But still have not felt good all day, very tired. wellll...ideas? (erin at least I was not foaming at the mouth, then I would know I was in CHF and raced to hospital)

be careful girl. you've got somethin' going on here. some sort of shift in fluids. with the breathing problems and edema???? don't do anything till you see the doc!!! he may want to screen your kidneys too.

Yikes, Flopsie! Feel better and take extra caution until you see doc on Monday! I cannot believe you did not go to the hospital after that episode!!!!

I am so so sorry to hear you are going through this. I read the first post and did not understand all the medical talk so I did not open it again until tonight. I did not realize it was about you. Talk about dumb.!!!!
Oh I feel terrible that you are going through something else. Could it be like that lung problem or pnemonia you had in the spring, I think that is when it was?
I am glad you are going to the doctor tomorrow.
Make sure you are assertive and get them to check you out for everything. I know lots of peeps and little ones that are counting on you.
You gotta be well for them, and for the hubby that still cooks romantic meals at 2:30 in the morning.
I will keep you in my prayers. let us know how you make out.

0230am!!! what a man! hey..at lest you remembered to eat!LOL. you're in my thoughts Flops! what sort of doc are you seeing tomorrow? PCP or a specialist? i'm still convinced it's gotta be related to the diabetes affecting some vascular aspect...preventing circulation and flow back from the lower extremities. and the SOB on top of that too! hmmm. but i can't play diagnostician to my dear Flopsie! hate to even think of anything..not even a splinter....making the Flop feel bad. :(

Hi effie, am so very sorry you are feeling bad, knew soething was wrong...you were gone too long.Erin, I think you are right, I think all this is related to the Diabetes. The Left knee, I had surgery on started acting up again last night, just a little twinge of pain on movement,today it hurts so bad and I can not lift it, have to drag leg when I walk. OH Lord, lets just face it, I am coming apart at the seams. Like that old Johnny Cash song LOL one piece at a time(course he was talking about stealing). Looks like fall here today also. Overcast and gloomy.Not complaining, got windows open and it is nice.Everybody have a wonderful day, wish you were all here and we could go out and play.

Good evening friends,
Well, just got back from doctor and he seems to think most of my problems are related to the uncontrolled diabetes, No more oral meds..Insulin now..Sniff..sniff
Will know a litle more when the results from the gallon of blood he took today comes back. I also go in the morning for some fasting blood work. The result I did get ..protien in urine. Oh, and he increased my Lasix to 80 mg.
I also got one more diagnoses that just scares the beegees out of me (as if I needed another one) Bi-Polar Depression. Don't know much about that one yet, will have to go on-line and see what I can find
so really not much to tell till lab results come back cept..well, I aint dead yet!

it's good that you went. it could be worse, if we have to think of it that way!!! i'm sorry you have to go on insulin now....but remember, it's SURVIVAL!!! am praying for you! you'll get through.
